    TITLE: Summer Camp Counselors

    DEPARTMENT: The Salvation Army, Wilmington, DE

    REPORTS TO:   Director of Children’s Services

    AVAILABLE: June 18-August 10, 2018 (3 needed)

    SCHEDULE: Full-Time; Monday thru Friday; 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM.

    SALARY and Grade: $10.00 per hour; 71 Non-Exempt

     

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    The Summer Camp Counselor supervises groups of children who range in age from 6 to 11 years of age.  They help to ensure that our day camp experience is a positive, fun and learning experience for children.

    Responsibilities

    • Accompany children on outings/trips providing supervision enforcing bus safety.
    • Assist in serving meals and refreshments to children and regulate rest periods.
    • Care for children in classroom setting.
    • Instruct children in health and personal habits such as eating, resting and toilet habits.
    • Observe and monitor children’s play activities.
    • Organize and participate in recreational activities, such as games.
    • Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order inactivity areas.
    • Perform housekeeping duties to ensure a clean, healthy environment.
    • Assist children if needed in swimming pool or on to gym equipment
    • Read to children and teach them simple painting, drawing, handcrafts and songs.

    Qualifications

      • You must be able to obtain clearances required by the Joseph R Biden III and the Child Protection Act.
      • Must have a high school diploma or GED
      • Child care certificate with a minimum of 150 hours of working with children.
      • Working toward a TEC 1 &2 or an Associates’ degree in Early Childhood Education.
      • You must be able to obtain clearances required by the Joseph R Biden III and the Child Protection Act.
      • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
