Department: Thrift Store, Carlisle, PA

Availability of Position: Immediate

Schedule:  Part-Time; 20-29 hours per week

Reporting Relationship: Thrift Store Manager

Salary and Grade: $8.45 per hour;  70 Non-Exempt

Description of Position:    

The Donation Center Associate will sort incoming in-kind donations from the community that will be used to supply the thrift store with retail items to help support The Salvation Army’s ministries.

• Is primarily responsible for accepting community donations and sorting items for resale from inappropriate items at the discretion of the Store Manager.
• Assist in cleaning and the general upkeep of the sorting area.
• Process and sort donations by inspecting and separating saleable items from unsaleable items.
• Organize and store seasonal clothing and bric for future sale.
• Ensure clothes are hung according to policy on proper hangers.
• Responsible for the collection and security of jewelry, antiques, and collectable items.
• Bag unsaleable clothing in preparation for bailing.
• Utilize the box truck to transport bail bags to Corps bailing location.
• Utilize the box truck to make pick-ups at donation bins, and occasional pick-ups of furniture or other large donations at donors’ homes.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

• Applicant must be able to work under the pressure of mounting donations within limited space.
• Must be customer oriented and able to get along with people in general.
• As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every three years thereafter.
• Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
