    Availability of Position: Immediate

    Schedule: Full-Time; 40 hours per week (evenings and weekends as needed for events as required)

    Reporting Relationship: Corp Commanding Officer

    Salary and Grade: $56,560-$60,000 annual; 14 Exempt

    Position Overview: Solicitation of Major Gifts, Corporate Gifts, Foundations and Grant Development of Endowment Funds Planned Giving.

    Responsibilities

    The Director of Development is responsible for the development of a systematic promotion, cultivation and solicitation of individuals within the defined program and service area. The Director of Development shall develop, consistent with United Way Guidelines, if The Salvation Army is an affiliated member, systematic promotion, cultivation and solicitation of all corporations within the geographic area served by the office(s) for which she/he is employed. Director of Development shall develop, consistent with Salvation Army policy, proposals for local and area foundations, relating to program development, enhancement and continuity.  Responsibility shall include compliance with terms of grant/contribution and such reporting as may be required. Director of Development shall identify with supervisory officer various programs and services which should be perpetuated through the development of endowment funds and actively cultivate gifts to establish and maintain the program(s). The Director of Development shall promote the planned giving program of The Salvation Army, engage in the identification of prospects, cultivate donors and refer viable prospects to the Planned Giving Director to cooperatively devise and execute Agreements.  Primary cultivation shall be in terms of gift annuities and endowments. The Director of Development will have opportunity to participate in the spiritual ministry of The Salvation Army.  Director of Development should make every effort to refer persons in spiritual need to the appropriate Salvation Army personnel or facility. The Director of Development shall be classified as an exempt employee of The Salvation Army consistent with existing policy. The Director of Development shall adhere to all policies set forth in The Salvation Army Handbook for Employees.  The Director of Development shall refrain from any activity which may be construed as, or lead to, a conflict of interest, i.e., sale of securities, real estate, insurance, etc.  where such training, licensure and experience may have been acquired from previous employment, he/she shall, under no circumstances, use Salvation Army contacts or resources or represent The Salvation Army for personal gain. The Director of Development shall refrain, consistent with Salvation Army policy, from executing any legal documents on behalf of The Salvation Army unless authorized by the Board of Trustees to do so. The Director of Development shall refrain from investing or subordinating funds rightly belonging to The Salvation Army. The Director of Development shall refrain from any personal gain as a result of donor contacts.  He/she shall not accept gratuities or gifts and shall not allow bequests or remainder interests to accrue to any individual affiliated with or representing The Salvation Army.  The Director of Development shall be compensated on a mutually agreed salary only.  No remuneration shall be based on a percentage of funds raised or any other basis which can be construed as a commission. The Director of Development shall maintain the confidentiality of all information received in his position and shall not, at time of termination of employment, remove such records, documents, software or other programs which are and shall remain the property of The Salvation Army. The Director of Development shall comply with guidelines relating to budget, expenditure and accountability. The Director of Development shall, consistent with supervisory officer approval, engage in periodic education and training programs as may be scheduled on a local, regional, or territorial basis. Director of Development shall comply with guidelines relating to activity and productivity reporting including, but not limited to, periodic personnel and activity reviews with supervisory officer, in addition to an annual review. The Director of Development will give oversight and supervision to the Events and New Relationships Director.  Also work in conjunction with Advisory Board and volunteers to provide an event which educates attendees about the Mission of The Salvation Army in addition to raising funds to support the designated Salvation Army programs. Performs related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Must be committed to and embrace the mission of The Salvation Army, with a clear passion for and understanding of the role of corporate fund raising and events in furthering that mission.
    • BA degree from an accredited college or university in relevant field such as Business Administration or Sales or Marketing or minimum of five years of relevant professional experience, such as fund raising for a not-for-profit organization, particularly with some corporate fund raising and events experience.
    • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), able to relate effectively and professionally to executives and leaders in the community as well as to key Salvation Army stakeholders (officers, staff, volunteers). Should be a good networker and relationship-builder.  Should be at ease in asking for money.
    • Must be well-organized and computer literate (Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, Raiser’s Edge preferred).
    • Must have valid Driver’s License and be willing to travel regionally as needed, flexible on scheduling to accommodate corporate relationships and events and other duties as assigned.
    • Must have a strong grasp of and vision for successful strategies and tactics related to corporate resource development and special events management.
    • Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
    • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
