    Position:  Deputy Director for Operations                                                                                                                     

    Department:  Emergency Disaster Services (EDS), Philadelphia, PA                       

    Availability of Position:  Immediate            

    Schedule:  Full-Time; 40 hours per week/On-call required                         

    Reporting Relationship:  EDS Director

    Salary and Grade: $45000 per year; 10 Exempt

    Responsibilities

    Overview:

    To provide the EDS Department with Operational oversight and management assistance in both Greater Philadelphia and Divisional areas through inter-agency coordination, program development, special event coordination and response operation oversight when necessary. 

     

    Duties:

    • To respond to all emergencies as assigned.
    • Serve on-call to assist EDS Director with supervision and coverage.
    • Assist with scheduling, training and oversight of volunteers.
    • Assist with the deployment of equipment during major responses.
    • Assist with coordination of Divisional disaster operations as needed.
    • Management of operations support including fleet maintenance staff, equipment readiness, etc.
    • Provide direct oversight to volunteers and staff assigned your area of responsibility.
    • Help insure visibility of all operations is maintained at all times.
    • Provide oversight of maintenance as necessary on all Divisional Vehicles, equipment and assets in coordination with Fleet Maintenance staff.
    • Serve as on scene supervisor of metro or Divisional events/incidents as needed.
    • Participate and provide coordination of special duty assignments.
    • Provide oversight as necessary on all Divisional Vehicles, equipment and assets.
    • Serve as administrator of Send Word Now, notification system and related databases.
    • Oversee the integration and implementation of field technology within the EDS Department.
    • Participate and when necessary coordinate planning efforts and projects as assigned.
    • Provide direct oversight to volunteers assigned your area of responsibility.
    • Represent EDS Department at any meetings or functions as assigned.
    • Provided management support of EDS GIS capabilities as needed.
    • Help with expansion of current use/involvement of volunteers in all phases of EDS program.
    • Work with EDS Director to develop relationships with vendors and organizations.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management or related field preferred.
    • Training in EDS/Emergency Management preferred, but not required.
    • Willingness to work irregular hours
    • Basic computer skills and good verbal communication a must.
    • Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
    • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
