To represent the Salvation Army’s spiritual & musical ministry in all spheres of influence within the Greater New York Division
Assist in the development of the music programs in the corps of the division and assist in the overall ministry of music in the division

Break down of time.

Corps instruction/teaching, leadership development and preparation – 70%
Divisional groups & special events – 15%
Star Lake Camp summer ministry - 15%


· For the musical development (instrumental, vocal, music theory) of the corps within the division
· Evaluate and document the strengths and weaknesses of the music program in each corps to determine the musical aptitude of the participants, as well as the current corps music program and as a result develop a teaching plan to strengthen the music skills of the participants within the corps so that those skills can benefit the larger corps program
· Assist the music department in developing a teaching schedule based on the musical needs of the various corps within the division
· Supply the corps within the division with musical equipment, resources and materials such as instruments, music, theory materials and other necessary music equipment that will help both employees and local music leaders to carry out a music program within the corps setting
· Develop leaders within the corps in the division by teaching them how to conduct musical groups, rehearse musical groups, organize a music program, teach individual and group music lessons, instruct participants of all ages, work towards performances, and how to mentor those participating in their program
· Help to secure local volunteers in each locale to enhance the musical ministry and program of the corps of the division
· Assist corps within the division with music lessons
· Promote and plan music events in corps throughout the division. This includes helping local leaders plan programs, advertise these programs and implement events. If local leaders are not prepared to do so, these tasks will fall directly to the employee
· Assist with the Music & Creative Arts Camp, Junior & Senior Conservatories, Star Search, Territorial Music Camp and divisional events
· Assist as assigned with any divisional music groups, as assigned by the Divisional Music & Creative Arts Director
· Assist with any other projects and responsibilities as assigned by the Divisional Music & Creative Arts Director
· Work diligently in all areas of the corps ministry to enhance both the musical and spiritual growth of the participants within the music programs so that they can serve God in and through The Salvation Army
· Work to establish a vibrant divisional music ministry that allows individuals to use their gifts and talents to the fullest as they serve God


· Bachelor’s Degree in the field of music and/or relevant experience
· An active uniformed Salvationist in good standing, who will soldier at a Corps in the Greater New York Division appointed and approved by the Divisional Commander
