TITLE:                      Summer Day Camp Counselor

DEPARTMENT:      Education

REPORTS TO:         Education Department Manager

SUPERVISES:          N/A

STATUS:                   Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE:            Full –Time (Seasonal) May - July

FUNCTION: This worker will serve as part of the summer day camp team.  They will assist the Education Department Manager to carry out the vision and objectives set down by the Kroc Center Administrators and Education Department Manager.  They will help plan and incorporate creative activities/programs that support that vision.  They will work in a way that provides a supportive environment in order to promote Christian faith and value in keeping with the Mission of The Salvation Army.  They will be role models for children and youth, mentoring in appropriate ways.




  • Display good character through words and actions.
  • Have a great attitude and a willingness to assist wherever needed.
  • Use excellent communication skills to work positively with different staff members/church members/ day-campers/ and all Kroc guests. 
  • Demonstrate an ability to interact well with children of all ages.
  • Must possess the ability to be flexible and adapt to changes in schedule and/or duties.
  • Must attend ALL trainings and meetings.
  • Assist in providing leadership to “Leaders In Training”, Camp Aides and volunteers involved in summer day camps.
  • Ensure that a safe and healthy environment exists for participants
  • Must participate in employee CPR/First Aide training and carry the CPR certification.



  • Lead/teach/participate/supervise with various children’s programs during camp including lunch and recess. 
  • Attend and manage small groups of campers on weekly field trips.


Day Camps/Job Rotations:


Education Building

  • Assist with Technology center
  • Assist with Summer Day Camps

Ministry Office

  • Assist with Children’s ministry/devotions set up
  • Assist with event setup and teardown

Recreation/ Fitness Center

  • Assisting with Summer Day Camps


All other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate by the Education Department Manager


  1. 1-3 years of experience in children or youth work
  2. Must be able work in a team environment, take the lead when needed, and follow the direction of The Salvation Army Officers
  3. Must be safety conscious
  4. Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly, in English
  5. Must have the ability to work and relate well with individuals with varying needs
  6. Must be able to handle difficult situations/confrontations in a professional manner
  7. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Driver’s License with two or less violations (moving or accident) over the past two years
  8. Must possess the ability to pass the online Salvation Army Fleet Safety Driver’s Test
  9. Must possess an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army
