The NJ Division of the Salvation Army, Service Unit Department is seeking a full time Field Representative At Large. This role will travel throughout the State of NJ providing service provision and fundraising. The Field Representative must be a licensed driver with access to their own vehicle. 


  1. Monitoring of Service Extension program within assigned area.


  1. Provide leadership in establishing and maintaining fund raising efforts for each Service Unit in region. Give guidance and encouragement to Service Unit volunteers and seasonal groups or employees in methods to raise funds locally, such as kettles and ensure they follow guidelines.


  1. Recruit, train and develop new committee members and volunteers as needed and ensure they are appropriately screened to meet set standards.


  1. Maintain open communication with volunteers and personally visit all Service Units within assigned area. Document meeting notes, action steps and recruitment efforts and ensure that volunteer appreciation is ongoing.


  1. Maintain open communication and work collaboratively with Corps Officers in assigned area. Lead bi-annual area meetings to include Corps Officers and Service Unit leadership to establish area goals and streamline services


  1. Assist in budget preparation for each Service Unit and ensure that Service Units stay within their set budget.


  1. Support Service Units with the resources and materials needed for servicing their respective communities.


  1. Encourage camper recruitment from assigned areas, arrange transportation if needed and assist with opening and closing day.


  1. Positively promote The Salvation Army in community relationships and events (including Corps Annual Dinners) if needed and interpret, programs, policies and procedures to volunteers and the community at large. Encourage volunteers to also positively promote The Salvation Army.


  1. Take initiative to identify community needs, assist in the development and implementation of new Service Unit programs.


  1. Perform emergency assistance tasks in the remote absence of volunteer, i.e. services to clients, special projects and seasonal activities


  1. Provide and maintain accurate and timely reports and train volunteers to do so. This includes statistical, financial and kettle income reporting.


  1. Provide Headquarters with information to share in newsletters and social media, i.e. volunteer profiles and Service Unit updates with photos.


  1. Maintain a working knowledge of The Salvation Army and support The Salvation Army’s mission. Collaborate with Corps Officers in assigned areas providing ongoing spiritual care to the community at large.


  1. Other duties as assigned.



  1. Bachelor’s degree or relevant professional experience.


  1. A background in fundraising and volunteer management


  1. 2-4 years of experience in non-profit community preferred


  1. Experience in recruiting/working with volunteers and/or volunteer groups


  1. Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.


  1. Ability to manage and lead a diverse group of people in accomplishing established goals


  1. Excellent attention to detail and well organized


  1. Ability to use MS Office including, Excel and PowerPoint


  1. Valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle is required; ability to travel as needed throughout the State of NJ.


  1. Must be willing to establish and maintain a dedicated office at an assigned Salvation Army facility.
