Supervise the day-to-day activity of Trust Operations.
Oversee the following aspects of Trust Operations: Allocation of Legacies and Release of Corpus/Earnings, Cash Management needs within Trust, Fiscal Closing, Audit Confirmations and Worksheets, General Release of Funds, Review of Journals and Debit and Credit Memos, Special Reports for Various Trust Reserves, Research and Analysis as requested by Department Leadership.
Supervise, coordinate, provide leadership and review the work of Trust Operations staff. Develop and promote strong capabilities in research and resolution, documentation and data verification.
Provide technical, functional and operational expertise in department work policies and procedures.
Assign work to meet completion dates in accordance with schedules and/or special projects as requested by Department Leadership.
Participate in candidate interviews/hiring, corrective action/termination, performance appraisals and promotions in coordination with departmental leadership.
Responsible to ensure proper back-up coverage is in place for all tasks in Trust Operations area to ensure tasks are completed timely and accurately.
Monitor Trust Chart of Accounts for adherence to Net Asset Class Structure in accordance with GAAP requirements.
Apply organizational policies and assure adherence to departmental procedures. Work to enhance current procedures and develop and document process improvements.
Ensure compliance with procedures, audit requirements and applicable operational internal controls in accordance with Salvation Army and accounting standards and policies.
Interact with other THQ departments as well as external contact with Command Finance Staff, auditors, etc. to resolve problems and answer questions regarding THQ Trust Reserves.
Coordinate account analysis and troubleshooting performed on output reports, year-end audit supporting schedules and other special reports.
Attend Finance Team meetings.
Lead the trust processing team, clarify roles and responsibilities, develop and implement staffing plans and training programs in order to position individuals to achieve personal, departmental, and organizational success.
Help create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
Cross train with other staff accountants to support them as needed.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance
Background or experience in Not-for-Profit Accounting
Strong Microsoft Excel skills is a plus
Minimum Two Years (2) Supervisory Experience
Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in order to meet extremely busy processing demands, while providing excellent communication and customer service simultaneously
Must use independent judgment and discretion in the day-to-day supervision of staff assigned work
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Team player, willing to assist other group members, staff and management
