Position: Soup Kitchen Assistant                                                                                                    

Department: East Stroudsburg, PA Corps

Availability of Position: Immediate                                                                                             

Schedule: Part Time, 20 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 1:00pm   

Reporting Relationship: Feeding Program Coordinator            

Salary and Grade: $10.00 per hour; 71 Non-Exempt

The purpose of this position is to support the mission of the Salvation Army through the providing of direct service to clients by providing meals.  The Coordinator will maintain a clean, safe and sanitary kitchen and storage areas. The Coordinator will work closely with the commanding officer and the Food Pantry/Volunteer Director.


  •  Follows all laws, policies, regulations, rules and procedures and complies with the instructions and or directives from his/her supervisor(s).Plan daily menu
  • Prepare and serve meals according to the agreed upon schedule
  • Clean kitchen and eating area daily
  • Establishes an effective working rapport with all other staff.
  • Orders all items necessary for an effective feeding program
  • Orders items as necessary for the Emergency Disaster Services program
  • Orders all janitorial supplies for the Corps including the Shelter
  • Cooks for various Corps functions including Volunteer Dinner, Estate Planning Seminar etc.
  • Schedule cleaning/maintenance/repairs of equipment in Kitchen area
  • Maintains records in compliance with various Grant requirements
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Commanding Officer
  • Must be courteous to clients, volunteers, staff and the general public
  • Appropriately prepares memorandums and correspondence.
  • Must maintain Serv-Safe certification and any work related clearances as mandated.
  • Prepares Safety Data Sheets
  • Provide volunteer hours to Executive Secretary for Statistics
  • Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
