  • Overview

    Under the leadership of the Education Manager this position is responsible for providing a safe, caring and enriching learning environment for children enrolled in the Salvation Army Kroc Krew Volunteer Program. The coach is responsible for designing programming that develops life skills in teens, provides practical activities and training supports the work that teens do in the program each day. Will also provide coaching and mentoring that is KeepSafe compliant.


    1. Develop and present curriculum that builds developmental assets in youth and prepares them to be job ready utilizing outside presenters as appropriate.
    2. Design activities and trainings that help youth become effective in their role in the summer camps.
    3. Work in a team environment and encourage open communication regarding concerns/issues with the program, children, parents or co-workers.
    4. Communicate with the Education Manager daily regarding concerns/issues with the program, children, parents or co-workers.
    5. Comply with all emergency procedures appropriate to the site and in conformity with procedures adopted by emergency service authorities to ensure the safety of the children and staff.

    6. Keep a consistent headcount on all children present at site; communicate changes with all other staff and maintain accurate documentation of attendance, behavior and incidents for each child.
    7. Ensure that all staff and children are respectful of Kroc Center property; ensure all rules and regulations are followed.
    8. Role model dignity and respect for others at all times. Actively participate, while encouraging youth, in programs and activities.
    9. Consistently demonstrate positive discipline; firmly and consistently enforce the rules; express clear expectations and accountability; ensure that reprimand fits the misbehavior.
    10. Enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students.
    11. Help children to develop a positive self-esteem and sense of self-worth.
    12. Lead youth through activities with enthusiasm and professionalism according to training protocol and scheduled program activities.
    13. Provide proper, and continuous, supervision for assigned group during all activities, while adhering to KeepSAfe policies and protocols.


    1. 21+ years of age, Associates degree or credit eqivalent required. Transcrpt showing graded coursework also required.  BA degree in Youth Ministry, Social Work, Education or Youth Development preferred.
    2. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
    3. Experience implementing youth programing is required. Experience working in a camp setting is preferred.
    4. Experience working with youth of varied ages and abilities in an urban setting is required.
    5. Experience supervising youth and presenting positive role modeling through all interactions required.
    6. Highly dependable and commited to professional development.
    7. Exercise mature judgment and sound decision making.
    8. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    9. Work a flexible schedule to meet program staffing/planning needs.
    10. TB test or chest x-ray with insignificant results.
    11. Physical by doctor or appropriate medical professional indicating eligibility to work.
    12. Fingerprinting and background check.
    13. Must provide three references.
