Overview

Under the leadership of the ASLC / Day Camp Supervisor this position is responsible for providing a safe, caring and enriching learning environment for children enrolled in the Salvation Army Kroc Center’s summer camp. The Lead Instructor will be responsible for developing and implementing the instructional program/curriculum targeting multiple learning styles. The Lead Instructor will provide guidance to Summer Camp Counselors, who are responsible to assisting in teaching, coaching and supervising campers. Lead Instructors are those, who can develop, lead, and deliver curriculum in the following areas: Sports & Wellness, STOMP, Character Building, STEM, Aquatic & Environmental Science, Music, Dance and Technical Theater

Responsibilities

    1. Lead children by providing clear direction and skill development.
    1. Consistently demonstrate positive discipline; firmly and consistently enforce the rules; express clear expectations and accountability; ensure that reprimand fits the misbehavior.
    2. Help children to develop a positive self-esteem and sense of self-worth.
    3. Lead children through activities with enthusiasm and professionalism according to training protocol and scheduled program activities.
    4. Actively instruct groups of up to 45 students, targeting multiple learning styles.
    5. Plan, prepare for and lead daily activities offered in alignment with lesson plans.
    6. Assist camp counselors in providing proper, and continuous, supervision for assigned group during all activities.
    7. Consistently demonstrate and reinforce the Salvation Army’s core values.RESPONSIBILITIES WHEN INTERACTING WITH PARENTS:

    1. Consistently adhere and implement the process for child release from program to parent or authorized guardian.
    2. Introduce yourself to parents and communicate with them regularly regarding program information: schedule changes, permission slips, positive and negative behavior of their children.
    3. Express appreciation for their interest in their child(s) participation in the program.RESPONSIBILITIES WHEN INTERACTING WITH SUMMER CAMP COUNSELORS:

    1. Provide counselors with accurate information, skill training and directions in order to allow them to effectively support the planned curriculum.
    2. Communicate with counselors daily regarding the program, schedule and responsibilities.

Qualifications

  1. 60 credits of college level courses and at least 4 classes in education and/or content area (specifically Sports & Fitness, STOMP, Character Building, STEM, Aquatic & Environmental Science, Music, Dance or Technical Theater) or must be able to demonstrate equivalent skills planning and delivery of content.
  2. TB test or chest x-ray with insignificant results.
  3. Physical by doctor or appropriate medical professional indicating eligibility to work.
  4. Three references.
  5. Teaching/coaching experience required.
