Overview

Position:  Case Worker                                     

Department:  Family Services, Wilmington, DE

Reports to:  Services Director                          

Availability:  Immediate

Schedule: Full time – Generally 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Salary and Grade: $13.00 per hour; 73 Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:The function of the Family Services Caseworker is to provide case management services and crisis financial assistance to families and

individuals who are in crisis, providing a holistic approach to the crisis situation and exploring alternative ways to meet client needs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Interview clients and assess their need for crisis alleviation services.
  • Maintain appropriate and complete documentation in client file.
  • Responsible for keeping a daily record of client contacts and statistical records
  • Responsible for following up with clients who may require additional attention beyond crisis alleviation services.
  • Responsible for the disbursement of funds including but not limited to: The Needy Family Fund, The Good Neighbor Energy Fund, Operation Share, EFSP, Food Closet, etc.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field is preferred; Candidates without a degree will be considered in the event that their experience warrants such an exception.
  • 3-5 years of experience providing placement and/or case management services for low income individuals.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks successfully.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Familiarity with social issues including depression, domestic violence, substance abuse, learning disabilities, parenting, anger management, and other relevant psycho-social areas.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Knowledge of TANF requirements, the business community and employers preferred.
  • Must demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently, work well with groups and be able to demonstrate good judgment and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Word, Excel and e-mail.
  • You must be able to obtain clearances required by the Joseph R. Biden III and the Child Protection Act.
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
