Location/Department: Waterbury Family Shelter (Waterbury, CT)

Status: Part-time, Non-exempt

Scope & Purpose of Position:

Will prepare and serve meals at the Waterbury Family Shelter, maintain accurate records and files, store items, keep kitchen and storage areas clean and stocked, train employees and volunteers, respond to concerns, attend workshops and meetings, plan and implement menus, and ensure kitchen is in compliance with various regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve dinner daily and as scheduled according to menu. Food must be prepared using standardized recipes. The Shelter Director must approve all menu changes in advance.
  • Prepare and organize daily breakfast and snack meals to be served by family monitor staff. Ensure all ingredients and components are available and/or arrange for alternatives in case of food allergies.
  • Maintain a file of standardized recipes for all foods prepared.
  • Store all foods neatly upon delivery in the kitchen or storerooms.
  • Keep kitchen equipment and storage areas thoroughly clean and stocked in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Health Department.
  • Wash and put away all items (pots, pans, utensils, slicer, etc.) used to prepare the meals and wipe down the counters. Ensure that all food is handled and stored in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Health Department.
  • Maintain accurate records, which include the following: daily temp checks, in-kind donation form, and daily menu changes.
  • Promptly respond to concerns raised by Operations Manager related to the kitchen.
  • Ensure that the kitchen program is in compliance with Health Department.
  • Attend workshops, meetings, and trainings as necessary to be informed of regulations and changes.
  • Must be able to work 24 hours per week, scheduled as 8 hours a day. Weekends, evenings, and holidays required.

Qualifications

  • High-school diploma
  • Two years cooking experience
  • Serve safe required QFO Recommended
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
