Scope & Purpose of Position:

Deliver various social services to clients of the Providence Citadel Corps, including the oversight of the food pantry operation.

  • Answer and respond to telephone calls and direct calls to the appropriate department.

  • Maintain proper organization of the office, especially as it relates to filing, responding to telephone calls, and workspace in order for interviewing clients.
  • Assist in the team coordination and implementation of all social service programs including but not limited to the food pantry, clothing and furniture vouchers, SafeLink cellular phones, etc.

  • Oversee the operation of the food pantry.

  • Conduct intakes of new clients seeking food pantry assistance, including recurring clients, in setting goals of self-dependency.
  • Provide all appropriate forms of direct service to clients based on availability of resources, guidelines, and need.
  • Maintain all current and accurate records on clients served, including services provided and a plan of action.
  • Network with other agencies in order to refer clients effectively and follow-up to ensure clients’ needs are met.
  • Submit required reports accurately and timely as requested.
  • Assist with the distribution of items to clients (food distribution, clothing assistance, etc.).

  • Assist with the coordination of the Youth Summer Camp.

  • Participate in Thanksgiving food baskets and Christmas toy packing and distribution as requested by supervisors.
  • Attend seminars, trainings, or presentations as it pertains to the position, community involvement, and/or programming as requested by supervisors.
  • Represent The Salvation Army appropriately in all circumstances.

  • Maintain respect for all clients and occupy a position of trust.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all job-related matters.

  • High school diploma required, college degree in social service or related field is a plus

  • Minimum of two of years of work experience in social services or related field

  • Knowledge of community resources

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to organize responsibilities and function independently

  • Excellent time management skills required

  • Demonstrate an effective ability to engage with diverse populations

  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing

  • Must have a high energy level and solid work ethic, as well as the ability to respond to changing conditions

  • Must work well in a team atmosphere

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer
