Department: Divisional Headquarters Music Department

Work Location: Lancaster, PA Corps                       

Availability of Position: Immediate   

Schedule: Full-Time; Flexible, including some evenings and weekends    

Reporting Relationship: Divisional Music Director   

Salary and Grade:  $40,000 annual; 11 Exempt

Position Overview:  The Capital Regional Music Director is to teach, train and expand corps music and arts ministries within the Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware, Pendel, Division, with a focus on implementing music schools in the Capital Region.

Responsibilities

Description of Position: Develop individual and group instruction in selected Pendel corps determined at the start of each season. Make weekly, bi-weekly or periodic visits, as needed. Mileage compensation for business use of personal vehicle will be made. Where appropriate, coordinate teacher training, development of corps music sections and coordination of that music schools or nurturing corps partnerships of music instruction within the Capitol region. The expectation is a minimum of three corps visits per week during the school year, plus the regional music school, and/or home corps rehearsal night. Give written report of the same twice a year. Give on-site assistance to Pendel Youth or Pendel Brass on Divisional Music rehearsal days. Give support to equipment and music needs for Divisional Music Days. Give leadership support to the Summer Music Leadership Orientation, Musicamp and Conservatory summer music and arts weeks at Camp Ladore, including participation in the program/schedule development. Coordinate the evaluation and reporting of participants in the Pendel Music Arts Proficiency Program (M.A.P.) for voice, piano, percussion, and brass, especially in assigned region. Support MAP revision as needed. Give organizational support to Pendel Regional Prep and Youth Music Arts Rally (including Star Search.) Assist in the Pendel Music Department, as needed with instrument and instructional material inventories, mailing lists, and other databases as needed. Assist with publicity and implementation of divisional and regional events, including leadership training, Pendel Regional Prep Days, Youth Music and Arts Rally (which includes Star Search), Midwinter Retreat, Ladore Musicamp, Junior and Senior Conservatory, territorial music events and camps. Participate on divisional music committee and any committees related to music activities. Maintain a monthly itinerary which will be reviewed and approved by the divisional music director in advance and accurately reported after each month. Because of the nature of this position, the hours are considered flexible, including some evenings and weekends. Conduct self always in a manner that reflects credit on the Salvation Army and encourages others to do the same. Perform related duties as assigned by the Divisional Music Director.

Qualifications

Requirements:  Must be an active Salvationist and remain active throughout employment having an understanding of and appreciation for the mission of The Salvation Army. Proven experience in corps music program leadership.  Bachelor’s degree in music, (music education preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience. Willingness to travel and availability of reliable transportation (mileage and tolls will be reimbursed.) Strong organization and communication skills. Good computer skills (familiarity with Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Sibelius.) Willingness and ability to teach both children and adults. As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every three years thereafter. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check. Must have a valid driver’s license.
