Position: Maintenance Worker                                                                                                       

Department: Philadelphia Roxborough, PA Corps                                                                                                             

Availability of Position:  Immediately                        

Schedule: Full-Time; Monday – Friday, 8AM – 4 PM                               

Reporting Relationship: Corps Officer                         

Salary and Grade: $9.74; 70 Non-exempt

Description of Position:   


Maintain building, grounds, and parking area in a clean and safe manner.  Complete minor repairs and work with the Corps Officer on problems beyond your skills.  Empty the trash.  Order supplies and maintain storage areas and equipment.  Secure unused areas of the facility, turn off lights, and lock doors on weekdays.  Remove ice and snow from walkways during inclement weather.  Supervise gym while in use.



  • Empty trash containers, replacing liners as required. Place trash in dumpster in parking lot.
  • Dust mop and wet mop floors per rotation indicated on schedule.
  • Clean rest rooms, making sure that all soap, toilet paper, and towel dispensers are filled.
  • Vacuum carpeted areas per rotation indicated on schedule.
  • Mow lawn weekly and trim bushes as needed. In winter remove snow and ice from walkways.
  • Remove litter from grounds and parking lot daily. Remove weeds.  Sweep walkways.
  • Replace burned out light bulbs as needed.
  • Sweep out bus, mopping, and cleaning windows per schedule.
  • Dust office desktops and counters and clean all of the kitchen counters and sinks.
  • Clean entrance windows per schedule and other windows as requested.
  • Move supplies, donations, and equipment as requested. Maintain building supplies and equipment.  Order janitorial supplies after review with the Corps Officer through the bookkeeper.
  • Lock unused areas of the building and turn out lights when areas aren’t in use, and secure windows and doors at the end of the workday.
  • Change Marquee outside as requested.
  • Supervise use of the gym. Enforce rules and monitor and adjacent hallway to ensure safety of participants.
  • Opens and closes for outside groups as requested. Collect any fees due and deliver them to the general office.
  • Works on janitorial projects once the group is situated.
  • Groups are responsible to clean up following their activity, and placing all garbage in the dumpster. Inspects to see that proper clean-up is completed at the end of the groups use.
  • Must be able to speak, write and understand English.
  • Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
