We are seeking an energetic, outgoing, and highly organized individual for the position of Development Associate. This full-time position is responsible for assisting the Development department with achieving fund raising, resource development, and donor retention and cultivation goals.

  • Assist the Assistant Director of Advancement with all activities, fund-raising events, and
  • Advisory Board development.
  • Assist with planning, organization and coordination of all activities for special events, including on-going annual activities as well as the development and implementation of new events and activities.
  • Assist with donor data base management and maintenance.
  • Responsible for the collection of all donor and prospect information in the donor database, to include all gift entry to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Assists with the management of the direct mail & marketing program.
  • Identify and cultivate mid-level and major gift annual support.
  • Insures proper donor recognition and stewardship.
  • Prepares weekly, monthly and annual reports on all campaign activity.
  • Assists with the coordination of donor solicitation for special events.
  • Acts as liaison to the Finance Department.
  • Ensure the highest levels of customer service are engaged when special needs/requests of volunteers and donors are presented to include address corrections, answering questions and providing specific information.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with staff as well as with outside contacts and officers to ensure maximum results from all aspects of partnerships and programs.
  • Create, coordinate and adhere to a comprehensive calendar of activities.
  • Prepare materials for meetings and attend key meetings to take minutes as needed. Maintain files, compose correspondence for multiple audiences, including minutes, agendas, work plans and acknowledgement letters.


  • Associate’s degree or extensive college coursework with equivalent experience, with a minimum of one year professional experience in a Development department with a track record of increasing responsibilities and familiarity with various fund raising disciplines.
  • Must be an excellent writer and researcher, able to effectively articulate a compelling case (proposals) and results (reports).
  • A strong grasp of the specific disciplines within development is a plus.
  • Must be able to effectively multi-task within deadlines and think, plan and follow through consistently at a strategic level.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to relate effectively, reliably and professionally with professionals and leaders in the community as well as with key leadership stakeholders in The Salvation Army.
  • Must be well-organized, proactive, and excellent at follow-up.
  • Must demonstrate good judgment, and work well as part of a development team, and be able to work effectively and in harmony with officers, staff and volunteers.
  • Must be computer proficient, able to easily and effectively use email and Microsoft Office applications and learn the donor management software.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and success in managing multiple projects.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Previous experience in fundraising helpful.
  • Valid Driver’s License that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements.
