    The Salvation Army is hiring!

    We have an immediate opening for an Administrative Assistant to the Youth Department. This position will provide program support for divisional youth events in Syracuse, NY, and relocates to Long Point Camp in Penn Yann, NY during the summer camp season (July-August).

    • Maintain professional standards in personal appearance and work areas

    • Provide phone coverage including screening and appropriately directing telephone calls and responding to routine inquiries.
    • Provide administrative support in
      • Opening, sorting and distributing mail.
      • Maintain inventory and order office supplies
      • Schedule appointments and meetings
      • Make travel arrangements
      • Establish and maintain files
      • Prepare and mail birthday and seasonal cards.
      • Reserve rooms and order food for committee and council meetings
    • Submit youth department dates for entry to the divisional calendar
    • Enter data for budgets, camper documentation and statistical reports
    • Code invoices and secure approvals
    • Establish and maintain database for divisional youth, college students and young adults
    • Prepare notifications, agendas and minutes for committee meetings
    • Assist with article and photo submissions to divisional newsletters
    • Distribute and process educational scholarship and loan applications
    • Manage WordAction Sunday School curriculum standing orders
    • Maintain records for Moonbeams, Sunbeams, Girl Guards, Adventure Corps and Boys Scouts
    • Coordinate troop registrations and badge requests
    • Maintain Corps Cadet Records and routine correspondence
    • Prepare scrimmage binders and maintain team standings for Bible Bowl
    • Maintain petty cash during summer camp
    • Maintain summer camp medical billings
    • Assist with USDA Summer Food Service Program documentation
    • Maintain American Camp Association standards to ensure annual compliance
    • Manage registrations for divisional, regional and territorial events
    • Attend and provide support at UNITED, Young Adult Retreats, Youth Councils, Divisional Youth Leaders Conferences and Long Point Camp
    • Assist with candidate cases, maintaining files, distributing documentation and assisting with budgets, educational and personality evaluations
    • Accept and willingly perform other related duties as requested by the Divisional Youth and Candidates’ Secretary and Associate Divisional Youth and Candidates’ Secretary


    • High school diploma/GED with minimum one year in an office setting. Associate’s Degree preferred.
    • Experienced in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
    • Highly organized and able to multi-task.
    • Must possess a high-level of professionalism and cultural competence with ability to communicate with all levels of staff and external customers/stakeholders.
    • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, proficient and accurate data entry skills plus grammar and proofreading skills.
    • Valid Driver’s License that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements.
