Job Summary: Camp Program Director is responsible for the oversite and supervision of Camp Allegheny’s program components which include Day Camp, Conservatory Camp and Residential Camp as well as off Season Day Recreational use of Camp Allegheny.


The Camp Program Director is responsible for developing, marketing, facilitating, and overseeing Camp Allegheny’s Summer Day Camp program including the hiring, supervision, guidance, and direction of day camp staff to deliver an outstanding experience to all campers and parents.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Developing all components of Camp Allegheny’s Day Camp.
  • Lead and manage the implementation of an incredible summer camp experience including follow-up on and resolution of parent/customer complaints.
  • Originate and carry out a marketing system for recruiting campers and staff utilizing brochures, telephone calls, reunions, hot prospect lists, etc.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with new ministry partners in the market.
  • Responsible for hiring camp staff relating to the day camp program.
  • Develop and direct programs for Summer Day Camp.
  • Supervise daily check-in and check-out of all Day Camper.
  • Responsible for training, nurturing, facilitating and leading a team of summer staff in their efforts towards growth as Christian Leaders (spiritually, professionally and personally).
  • Consult with Day Camp staff prior to each week of camp, to identify camper special needs and requests.
  • Manage budget, maintain and stock all Day Camp program equipment.
  • Maintain weekly Day Camp records.
  • Supervise the cleanliness of the program/equipment spaces for Day Camp.
  • Abide by all camp policies and covenant agreement.
  • Adhere to American Camping Association guidelines.
  • Comprise a Summer Planning Team.
  • Perform all other duties and roles assigned by the Program Secretary.

 Additional Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate all Program aspects of Camp Allegheny for logistical purposes and for an efficient operation.
  • Aid in enhancing existing Camp programs.
  • Communicate with all leadership staff of schedule or logistical changes throughout the summer.
  • Monitor staff, camper and parent relations.
  • Observe the peer culture to see if there are any problems and implement solutions as necessary.
  • Practice and enforce all camp safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Abide by and enforce all camp policies
  • Goals: define the goals of the camp and the goals of camper development, and/or reflect the director’s role in carrying out these goals as defined by organization
  • Plan programs to reflect camp goals.
  • Assist in preparation and conduct pre-camp and in-service staff trainings with the residential camp personnel.
  • Define and monitor crisis management plan, including emergency procedures.
  • Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the camp family.
  • Work closely with management staff to update and maintain the professional credentials of each staff member.
  • Stay updated on all laws and regulations and make certain that all company operations area within the scope of those laws.
  • Establish an overall annual program budget and then monitor each program to make sure the budget is not exceeded.
  • Develop comprehensive progress reports on all active programs and submit to Program Secretary.
  • Maintain and deliver all paperwork required to make sure that the organization’s certifications remain intact and in good standing.
  • Other duties as directed to maintain the smooth operation of the Camp.
  • Attend conferences/trainings as required.
  • Above all else, create a Christian camp atmosphere with Christian education as a daily component of camp.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • All three PA Clearances required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record, and Fingerprint based federal criminal history.
  • PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Army’s KeepSAfe training required.
  • Ability to maintain workflow efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in MS office.
  • Maintain a compassionate, patient, self-controlled, dependable and understanding nature.
  • Ability to problem solve and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to be a self-starter, highly motivated and able to work unsupervised for extended periods.
  • Ability to lead programs by example.
  • Maintain a Christian witness with a commitment to the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army.

      Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or 5+ years of experience in camping and program planning.
  • Director certification by the American Camping Association or willing to obtain.
  • Current CPR and first aid certifications or willing to obtain.
