Overview

The Salvation Army Greater New York Division is involved in an array of services to the community throughout its over seventy centers in New York City and the surrounding counties. The Digital Media Section will serve to support the Development Department in providing materials that can be used in the procurement of funds to support The Salvation Army’s programming. The Digital Media Section will strive to spread brand awareness of The Salvation Army Greater New York Division through the use of the web and social media. Through communication with the various social services and ministry arms of The Salvation Army, the Digital Media Section will highlight stories and partnerships that will promote the image and mission of The Salvation Army with the ultimate goal of increasing donations through the efforts of digital fundraising, and through the utilization of created materials in the personal relationships that are formed between members of the development staff and their prospective donors. The Digital Media Director will work to ensure the Development Department is supplied with frequent and updated materials that can be used in fundraising goals, and that The Salvation Army continues to grow its support in the community via the web and social media. The Digital Media Director will work closely and side-by-side with his/her team to ensure any valuable social service and ministry programs are highlighted and shared with the community directly or through members of the Development Department. Methods should be researched and developed to determine the direct correlation between posted material and donation income.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all activity within Digital Media Section
  • Manage projects among the Digital Media Section to delegate responsibilities
  • Actively communicate with department heads to see where the Digital Media Section may be able to assist in promoting programs and The Salvation Army mission
  • Work with staff to produce materials that promote The Salvation Army Greater New York Division’s work within the church congregation and community
  • Communicate with officers in the field to determine programs and individuals to be filmed, photographed, and promoted, with the goal of raising funds
  • Communicate with external marketing partners/professionals to facilitate revision to existing website and to develop future web management strategies.
  • Oversee The Salvation Army’s “voice” across the internet with particular concentration on social media
  • Oversee the maintenance of requests, complaints, and concerns that come through The Salvation Army’s web presence, including referrals to appropriate staff or reporting serious situations to divisional leadership
  • Ensure all material that is produced within the Digital Media Section meets quality and doctrinal standards
  • Remain up to date on the latest Media trends with regard to technology, practices, social media, etc.
  • Remain relevant and on top of current events with the goal of leading the Digital Media Section in a positive and innovative direction
  • Ensure that all special events and fundraisers are archived with photos and/or video, including the Annual Gala, Planned Giving Luncheons, Book Clubs, 21 Club, etc.
  • Begin to develop long-term digital storage workflow and strategies with Director of Information Technology
  • Coordinate the schedules of Digital Media Section employees to maximize production and creativity
  • Provide support for the planning and execution of divisional events as assigned by the Secretary for Program*
  • Work with Director of Audio/Visual Services to train and develop a team of youth and young adults from within the division to staff events and support the field as needed, with the concentration on skills that can be developed to be used at the Corps level. *
  • Ensure that all needs within the Program Department are met with regards to Candidate Interviews, Annual Command Review, Youth Councils, Men’s Camp, Women’s Camp, Music & Creative Arts Camps and Conservatories, Family Camp Meetings, and all other divisional events where video and photo support is needed*
  • Communicate with officers and provide digital resources and support as needed in their local setting*

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Film, Media, or similar field with 10+ years experience
  • Passion for The Salvation Army’s mission, coupled with a strong commitment to know and understand The   Salvation Army’s history, mission and structure, as well as its services, policies, and procedures
  • Highly effective interpersonal and conversational skills in combination with excellent writing and communication abilities
  • Ability to work cohesively in a team to collaborate effectively with officers, staff, and other representatives and partners of The Salvation Army.
  • Willingness and ability to travel on a regular basis. Valid Driver’s License required. Ability to work remotely (out of the office) when required.
  • Experience in working independently without direct and constant administrative support. Ability to handle multiple tasks on a number of different projects and campaigns.
  • Extensive knowledge in an array of video, audio, and image editing software, including but not limited to Apple Final Cut X, Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects)
  • Extensive knowledge in video, photo, audio, and lighting equipment
  • Extensive knowledge of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc., and their management
  • Extensive knowledge of presentation software, such as ProPresenter 6 and its following updates
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of event production, from pre-production to post-production, including audio/video/lighting production equipment and manufacturers
  • Proficiency in WordPress and other website management systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency in information technology to facilitate file sharing through web applications
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus
