The Empire State Divisional Headquarters is seeking an Assistant Finance Director to serve as second in charge under the direct Finance Secretary. This position will manage the daily and periodic activity of the finanace department to meet the fiscal reporting and processing needs of the division, which includes all Salvation Army Corps and Area Services located in upstate NY.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight to the day-to-day operations of the Divisional Finance Department.
  • Supervise top level accounting staff at Divisional Headquarters and conduct evaluations.
  • Work with the Divisional Financial Secretary (DFS) to develop and implement departmental policies/procedures to efficiently meet objectives.
  • Review internal/external audit reports and facilitate proper oversight to ensure implementation of corrective action plans when needed.
  • Maintain liaison relationship with Territorial Headquarters Finance Department and other Finance Managers/Directors throughout the territory in coordination with the DFS.
  • Manage and perform internal audits as assigned.
  • Process Finance level approvals.
  • Serve as Secretary to the Command Finance Council when necessary.
  • Represent the DFS in their absence.
  • Review and approve journal entries and bank reconciliations for DHQ accounts.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Management and 5 years of related experience
  • Proven working experience as Accounting/Business Manager
  • Advanced computer skills on MS Office, accounting software and databases
  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to direct and supervise
  • Valid Driver’s License that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements.
