Position: 21st Century Program Aide

Department: Philadelphia West Corps, 5501 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA

Availability of Position: Sept. 1, 2017 thru Sept. 30, 2018, (full year).

Schedule: Part-Time; 12-15 hours per week; Monday-Friday, 3 PM to 6 PM

Reporting Relationship: Corps Officer/Site Coordinator/Manager

Salary and Grade: $8.99 per hour; 70 Non-Exempt


Description of Position: Oversee students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips, guiding youth from one area to another.


Oversee students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips, guiding youth from one area to another. Assist tutors with children individually or in small groups to help children master assignments and reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers. Enforce administration policies and rules governing students. Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts. Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage. Assist with the observation of students’ performance, and record relevant data for tutors to assess progress. Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using discussions, or supervised role-playing methods. Assist with the preparation of lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations. Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.



G.E.D or diploma preferred and at least 1year experience in working with children.  Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.  Have experience in assisting individuals/groups and possess the ability to help on all grade levels from K-4th grade. Bilingual candidate desired for primary Latino Corps required. Experience working in neighborhoods and with community members. Good interpersonal communication skills, strong organizational and classroom management skills.  Must be able to acquire valid PA Criminal Record, PA Child Abuse clearances, and FBI clearances.  Must have an understanding and appreciation of The Salvation Army’s Mission.
