Overview

We have an immediate opening for a Human Resources Generalist. This position is responsible for assisting in the leadership and direction of a comprehensive Human Resource department that supports 600 full and part time staff within the Empire State Division, with a focus on providing a positive and compliant employee relations program.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the organization on employee relations issues; conflict resolution; discrimination and harassment investigations and unemployment claims.
  • Under the guidance and with the approval of the Human Resources Director recommend employment and corrective actions to be taken to ensure continuation of work objectives and fair, consistent and compliant treatment of all employees.
  • Communicate and respond to inquiries from Corps Officers, management and staff regarding policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the performance management function. Provide training, input and guidance to supervisors on the performance management function. 
  • Provide guidance and counsel to Corps Officers, management and staff on employee relation issues, conflict resolution and employment regulations including workplace discrimination, performance management and disciplinary procedures and terminations decisions.
  • Provide accurate and timely Human Resource and Financial information including the analysis of data and the creation of reports.
  • Assist with internal training programs (Diversity training, Blood borne pathogens, Workplace safety) as well as annual events (Christmas activities, Open Health Enrollment, United Way, Kettle Campaign).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field
  • Minimum three years experience in Human Resources and/or Employee Relations required.
  • Experience working in a non-profit organization preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of New York State and Federal labor laws.
  • Strong skills in organization, written and oral communications are required.
  • Ability to interpret policies and technical and detailed guidelines.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive, objective and appropriate relationships with employees.
  • Must be able to juggle shifting priorities.
  • Attention to detail.
  • SHRM or HRCI certification preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements.
