The Salvation Army is seeking a part-time Custodian for our Corps Temple in Buffalo, NY.


This position will be scheduled 25 hours per week/5 days per week.


The Custodian will maintain the Buffalo Temple Corps building, parking lot and sidewalks to ensure the building and grounds have a clean and neat appearance.


  • Chapel - Vacuum carpets, align chairs, dust altar and chapel furniture and sweep/mop altar floor.
  • Lobby - Sweep and mop floors, including hallways, dust furniture, clean glass doors and windows, vacuum carpets and entryway rugs every day.
    • Clean walls for spots and hand marks.
    • Maintain clean water fountain area located between the main bathrooms.
  • Classroom, Gym and Dining/Banquet Hall - Sweep and mop every other day, wash tables and chairs,             clean windows and walls dump garbage.
  • Offices - Vacuum carpets every other day, empty garbage cans, dust furniture, clean windows.
  • Kitchen - Maintain/clean all counter surfaces, sink, stove and refrigerator; sweep and mop floors every day using proper cleaning solutions.
  • Empty garbage cans and change liners in all of the building.
  • Bathrooms - Empty all garbage cans and change liners; check and supply paper towels, toilet paper and hand soap.   
    • Clean sinks, urinals, toilets and mirrors.
    • Sweep and mop floors with hot water and proper cleaners.                                                                                                            
  • Parking Lot and Sidewalks - Pick up garbage including lateral entrances.
  • Maintain/clean glass windows on Grant Street and in parking lot.
  • Shovel the snow and spread salt in every building entrance – being sure to shovel the handicap parking place.
  • General Duties – Replace light bulbs as needed, set up furniture for church activities, maintain cleaning supply inventory and order supplies a week in advance.
  • Keep track of the conditions of the property and advise the Pastor or secretary when repairs need to be done.
  • Attend all staff meetings, workshops and trainings as directed.


  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment and able to learn acceptable cleaning methods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally
  • Ability to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to willingly attend and participate in training sessions
  • Valid driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements
