Overview

Position: Corps Program Assistant                                                                                          

Department: Corps – Shipley Street, Wilmington, DE     

Availability of Position: July 2017    

Schedule: Full-TIme; evenings and weekends required

Reporting Relationship: Corps Officers        

Salary and Grade: $13.00 per hour; 73 Non-Exempt

 

Position Overview: The Corps Program Assistant’s primary responsibility is to give oversight as directed by the Corps Officer for oversight of the Community Center and other Salvation Army children’s programming.   In addition, this position would assist with summer programs and other seasonal programs as assigned.

Responsibilities

Job Duties:

  • With regards to the Community Center
    • Give supervision to other staff and volunteers
    • Incorporate Christian education component as appropriate into all curriculum activities
    • Communicate with parents and teachers as needed
    • Provide statistical and narrative reports as needed
    • Plan and present special events/activities to connect children and families to Corps spiritual programs and services
  • With regards to Salvation Army children’s programming
    • Assist Corps Officer with planning and oversight of Corps troops programs, and other youth programs as assigned
    • Oversee/organize music and arts programs for children
    • Serve in team ministry for the leadership of these programs
  • With regards to other program activities as needed
    • Assist with seasonal program activities as needed
    • Oversee Corps and Regional Camp Ladore camper recruitment each spring
    • Serve on the summer Day Camp staff in leadership position
    • Assist where possible in Sunday worship ministry
    • Submit needed statistics and reports as assigned
  • Serve as member of the Corps council
  • Handle other tasks, duties and responsibilities as assigned by Corps Officer

Qualifications

Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Active Senior Soldier in The Salvation Army. Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army. Must have a passion for children’s ministry and evangelism. Must have an excellent relational skills with children and adults.  Must have the ability to use general office machines and be computer literate.  Must have good organizational skills. Must have a valid driver’s license with 2 or less violations over the past two years.  Salvation Army youth work experience preferred.  Ability to speak Spanish a plus but not necessary. Training and experience in urban ministry preferred. Candidate must be able to obtain clearance required by the Joseph R. Biden III and the Child Protection Act.
