Overview

REPORTS TO:           Responsible cooperatively to the Corps Officer and Emergency Assistance Coordinator.

 

SUPERVISES:            N/A                                         

 

STATUS:                    Non-Exempt                           

 

SCHEDULE:              Full Time (Temporary)

 

FUNCTION:   This position is responsible for Emergency Assistance Services at the Cincinnati Westside Worship and Service Center location.  Services performed by this position include assessing the basic needs of low income individuals and families, providing assistance in the form of food, financial assistance, vouchers for in-kind items such as clothing and furniture, and linking participants to services that will help stabilize their crisis.  This position will conduct registration for camp, seasonal programs and all stabilization courses offered by the Emergency Assistance program. This position will work in harmony with the Corps Officer to carry out The Salvation Army’s mission and ministry.            

Responsibilities

  1. Assess the basic and emergency needs of low income individuals and families participating in the program.

 

  1. Through crisis intervention, advocacy and case planning, assist participants in forming a plan to stabilize the crisis.

 

  1. Provide direct material assistance in the form of food, financial assistance (utility, rent, other) or other forms of assistance as needed to stabilize the participant’s crisis.

 

  1. Link participants with services that will assist in the long term stabilization of the crisis.  Services may include but are not limited to stabilization courses offered by The Salvation Army, Benefit Bank services, shelter and housing, workforce development training and any other services offered by The Salvation Army or community partners that will address the cause of the participant’s crisis.

 

  1. Respond to all Emergency Assistance phone calls, walk-ins and inquiries.

 

  1. Conduct registration for programs such as camp, seasonal programs, stabilization courses offered by The Salvation Army and other programs as requested.

 

  1. Maintain and compile service statistics on all clients.  Complete reconciliation paperwork.  Turn in to Corps Officer at month end.

 

  1. Place and pickup food pantry orders on an as needed basis, stock food pantry, maintain upkeep of food pantry, and assist clients to walk through and pick food choices.  Follow food pantry guidelines and expectations.  Complete food pantry statistics report and submit to Corps Officer on a monthly basis.

 

  1. Attend all staff meetings and in-service training sessions.

 

  1. Cooperate with other Salvation Army staff, including the Worship and Service Center ministry team, to create and maintain a harmonious and efficient environment.

 

  1. Maintain time sheets and turn in when due.

 

  1. Consult the Emergency Assistance Coordinator for additional information, feedback, and approval on assistance with difficult or unusual client situations.

 

  1. Follow rules, regulations, and policies of The Salvation Army.

 

  1. Network with community agencies to build a greater referral potential for Salvation Army client systems.

 

  1. Maintain a personal program of professional development.

 

  1. Complete other tasks as assigned by the Corps Officer or Emergency Assistance Coordinator.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field or at least 2 years experience in a social work setting. 
  2. Willingness to uphold and support The Salvation Army’s mission and ministry.
