Overview

Job Title:  Recreation/ Computer Lab Assistant

Exempt/Nonexempt:  Non-Exempt              

Reports To:  Ministries Director                   

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB. 

Assist the other Recreation Staff to develop, organize, initiate and supervise all aspects of the Recreation Center, both traditional and non-traditional.  This includes the Game Room, Youth Room, Computer Lab, Reception desk and Gym and Sports / League activities.  Work with the Ministry Staff and Corps Officers to bridge program participants into Corps / Church programs and to bring Christian influence into the Recreation Center.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Represent The Salvation Army in a manner that brings glory to God.
  • Assist in every way requested to carry out the spiritual and total mission of The Cleveland Temple Corps of The Salvation Army in terms of community needs and our ministry to the people of our community.
  • Assist the Recreation staff in a variety of athletic and recreational activities that are a part of the total ministry of Cleveland Temple.
  • Assist in teaching children basic skills in individual and team activities.
  • Assist individual with computer use, and resume building needs.
  • Assist lab attendees with job search, and homework research.
  • Compile reports as requested for grant / funding reporting and compliance
  • Monitor activities in the gymnasium, youth room, game room, computer lab and elsewhere in the facility.
  • Seek to protect all youth who utilize our facilities.
  • Ensure that the proper approval is obtained for all new programs before they are implemented per Salvation Army policy. Make sure that such programs uphold the Mission of The Salvation Army
  • Report needs for maintaining / repair of equipment and inventory to the Recreation Manager.
  • Responsible for statistical reporting for all activities and turning them in on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for proper securing of the building at all times. This includes security checks, both inside and out, regularly while the Community Center is open.
  • Responsible for maintenance / cleanliness of gym, common lobby areas, locker rooms, game room and other areas in sphere of responsibility on a daily basis. Report any maintenance needs immediately to the Ministries Director who will report it to the Operations Director.
  • Work with youth from the Corps/Church, Learning Zone and the Recreation Center with the goal of “blending” the facility together.
  • Offer input as it relates to meeting the needs of the community.
  • Build relationships within the Recreation Center to encourage children and teens to participate in Corps / Church programs / services.
  • Create and distribute flyers for the Recreation Department.
  • Work with the Youth Ministries Coordinator and offer assistance with all ministry programs, as needed.
  • Drive for programs and recreation team needs as requested and needed.
  • Ensure that all requirements pertaining to grants and funding are adhered to.
  • Attend community events, at the direction of the Corps Officers.
  • Assist with the overall Christmas effort including driving for kettles as requested and necessary.
  • Assist with any other projects as assigned by the Corps Officers, or Ministries Director.

 

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE. 

  • Three years experience working with children
  • Wide range of knowledge concerning sport activities
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Computer experience

 SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS. 

  • First Aid / CPR certification
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and appropriate intervention skills required.
  • Strong knowledge of available resources required.
  • Must be passionate about the Mission of The Salvation Army and the Vision of the Cleveland Temple Corps.
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License and be able to drive for The Salvation Army
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  • Computer / Teaching skills and training
