The Maintenance Worker for The Salvation Army Kingsboro Men’s Shelter MICA Program. This is a 143-bed facility located at 681 Clarkson Avenue.  The Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining the carpentry, plumbing, electrical work an HVAC system as needed. The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to the duties listed in the job description.


  • Repair structures and work with wood, wallboard, tiles, power tools, and hand tools.
  • Build wall partitions; replace doors, locks, etc. Some blueprint and sketches.
  • Plumbing-unclog sinks, drains, and toilets; replace/repairs sinks, faucets, toilets, grout tile. Familiar with and able to solder and braze pipe. Some blueprint reading helpful.
  • Electrical-replace fuses; test circuits; install receptacles, three-way switches and light fixtures; replace ballast and plugs; familiar with multi-tester and wire gauge.
  • HVAC-knowledge of low-pressure boilers; familiarity with air conditioning and cooling towers.
  • Consistently reports to work on time and is ready to begin work at the start of the shift
  • Always provides proper notification when late absent.
  • Demonstrates reliability when on-call. Available to work overtime when necessary (Only non-Exempt employees).
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of workflow.
  • Able to perform duties independently, with minimal need of direct supervision.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of clients, shelter/program, agency and or The Salvation Army
  • Wears I.D. badge while on duty.
  • Demonstrates the ability to interact in a positive and helpful manner with clients, visitors, contract staff, volunteers and co-workers.
  • Reflects commitment to building a supportive work environment and maintains a positive attitude at the work place and towards job.
  • Projects a good image in dealing with the public and clients.

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • One year of experience in the area of maintenance.
  • Has respect and consideration for the people being served.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds.
