  • Overview

    The Afterschool program coordinator is responsible for the successful operation of the afterschool program. He/she recruits children and volunteers from nearby colleges and High School to assist with reading and math. She will train and manages them and ensure a quality program. This position is requires acknowledgement of the Salvation Army Mission.

    Hours: 30 hours/week (Monday- Friday, 12 noon to 6:00pm). Additional hours for meetings,          planning, or special projects may be requested form the Corps Administrator.


    • Recruits student volunteers from nearby colleges to help kids with English and math.
    • Plans and coordinates the after school schedule
    • Serves as a the lead contact with parents and children’s school teachers including: answering questions, welcoming, and other after school communications
    • Acts as a liaison between the after school and all other departments, communicating relevant information to the front desk staff as needed
    • Develops and implements after school policies and procedures
    • Orders any supplies needed for the after school program
    • Conducts departmental meetings
    • Other duties as assigned


    • Associate Degree in elementary education or related field preferred.
    • Two years experience working with school-age children (ages 5-12).
    • Two years experience working with multicultural children and relating to parents
    • Enthusiasm and interest in working with school-age children (ages 5-12).
    • Ability to plan and implement activities appropriate to age group and program goals.
    • Ability to practice non-punitive discipline methods.
    • Current certification of CPR, First Aid.
    • Food Handler’s Permit/or be able to apply for it in the first three months 
    • New York State or Westchester County Afterschool Program Accreditation preferred
