Overview

The Divisional Program Specialist and Coordinator for Creative Arts & Music works to ensure that the creative arts and music ministries of the Greater New York Division are of the highest standard artistically, musically and spiritually. He/She will be responsible for all divisional creative arts and music ministries as well as resourcing all corps and units in the Greater New York Division in relation to creative arts and music.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the advancement of Salvation Army music by: Providing training through our music camps, summer conservatories, seminars and weekly music ministries
  • Oversee the development of new music resources for the corps and division
  • Oversee the training of leaders within each corps on how to begin and then sustain a music program on the local level
  • Provide attractive visual resources to the corps and their communities regarding our music programs
  • Collaborate with local educational institutions throughout the division in hopes of exploring new avenues of ministry opportunities
  • Promote the advancement of the creative arts by:
  • Providing training through our camps, summer conservatories, seminars and weekly arts ministries.
  • Oversee the development of new creative arts resources for the corps and the division
  • Oversee the training of leaders within each corps on how to begin and then sustain a creative arts program on the local level
  • Provide attractive visual resources to the corps and their communities regarding our creative arts programs
  • Develop goals for the corps and division related to creative arts and music ministries and work to meet those goals annually
  • Oversee the development of musical ensembles that can assist corps when a musical need is presented for an event
  • Organize all elements of and lead several divisional creative arts and music events each year for Music & Creative Arts Camp, Junior Music & Creative Arts Conservatory, Senior Music & Creative Arts Conservatory
  • Divisional Star Search
  • Organize divisional participation in the following territorial events for Star Lake Musicamp, YSB All Stars, Singing Stars, Rose Bowl Participation, Territorial Star Search, Territorial Arts Ministry Conservatory
  • Oversee the development of a program to enhance the effectiveness of the corps worship bands within the division
  • Work to assure that all corps have live music for worship services by the year 2020
  • Implement an outcome based measurement tool to determine the musical progress of those in our music programs
  • Work with the five Adult Rehabilitation Centers in the division in collaboration with music department staff to assist them with their musical needs in hopes of providing another avenue of assimilation between the corps and the ARC program
  • Work to ensure that the primary goal of all ministries conducted out of the creative arts and music department are Christ centered, leading the program participants to a deeper relationship with Christ and aligns with our mission
  • Coordination of creative arts and music department personnel, programs and schedules
  • Coordination of all administrative duties within the creative arts and music department
  • Payroll/HR tasks
  • Create department budget and budgets for special programs/events (Conservatory, Star Search, Music Camp, etc)
  • Statistical recording and monthly statistical review of creative arts and music programs
  • Create required reports for DHQ administration
  • Create a case of support for the Development Department for current and future creative arts and music funding purposes
  • Work with the Divisional Secretary for Program in the development and implementation of divisional programs and events
  • Develop resources to promote the Greater New York creative arts and music ministry program
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the divisional music library and manage instrument resources
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the divisional creative arts resources and manage all resources and props involved in the program
  • Develop a yearly calendar for creative arts and music ministries in coordination with the Secretary for Program
  • Oversight of all divisional creative arts and music groups
  • Work with the development department on annual fundraising events
  • Be the divisional liaison to the territorial music department
  • Be the divisional liaison to the territorial creative arts department
  • Serve on a variety of divisional and territorial committees
  • Perform other duties as assigned.          

Qualifications

  • Must be a uniformed Salvationist in good standing
  • Must be willing to actively soldier at a corps in the Greater New York Division
  • Strong Christian testimony of faith and holiness as this is a ministry position
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Proven experience in Salvation Army creative arts and music programming and leadership
  • Experience in supervising people and planning programs
  • Strong organization and communication skills
  • Strong computer skills
