Responsibilities

  • Involvement in the total camp program with willingness to help in all areas as needed, including dining room, outdoor/indoor activities, children with problems, daily assembly, devotions, etc.
  • Promote observance of moral, spiritual and ethical codes affecting campers and staff.
  • Attend and contribute to Program Leadership & General Staff Meetings.
  • Responsible for sharing with the Program Directors, all matters of mutual concern relating to the total welfare of the Camp Program.
  • Responsible to complete Orientation Sessions and attend all parent meetings.
  • Responsible for the leadership and guidance of assigned campers and your assigned staff.
  • Responsible for, in conjunction with the Program Director, for the planning of assigned group’s schedule.
  • Assume responsibility for the health, cleanliness, good habits, welfare and happiness of all campers and staff, but especially those under your direct supervision.
  • Maintain a high level of interaction with campers and staff; also be a constructive member of the Leadership contributing in every possible way to the health, harmony and happiness of the Brownsville Day Camp family.
  • Coordinate daily assembly as assigned by the Assistant Program Director.
  • Voice criticisms to the Program Directors first and respond positively to their directives, thereafter.
  • Responsible for the complete and overall supervision of your group’s Counselors.
  • Correct or reprimand staff as soon as possible (in private), for actions that put the health and safety of campers at risk. Document all written and verbal warnings. Report all incidents minor or major.
  • Ability to communicate and work with groups of various ages and skill levels, and provide necessary instruction to campers and/or staff.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately and quickly to situations requiring first aid.
  • Cognitive and communicative abilities to plan and conduct activities that achieve camper development objectives.
  • Ability to identify and respond to hazards. Must be able to assist campers and staff in emergencies.
  • Complete a Camp Debrief at the end of the season to include areas of concern for following camp season.
  • Responsible to assist Program Directors with oversight of Camper Behavior Management – including collection and review of reports; should strictly enforce behavior management guidelines
  • Responsible for the organization and administration of the assigned activity.
  • Assume responsibility for the all areas assigned, proper use of supplies, maintenance of inventory, requesting additional supplies as needed.
  • Coordinate with other program activities and plans. Offer assistance and support as needed.
  • Submit weekly lesson plans for assigned activity.

Qualifications

  • One Year Experience in Youth or Camp work and/or group work experience in child-orientated arts
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 6 months supervisory experience
  • Availability for the entire duration of the Summer Camp Season
