Responsibilities

  • Involvement in the total program with willingness to help in all areas as needed, including dining room, outdoor/indoor activities, children with problems, daily assembly, etc.
  • Promote observance of the moral and ethical codes affecting participants and staff.
  • Attend and contribute to Program Leadership & General Staff Meetings.
  • Responsible for sharing with your immediate supervisor and/or Program Directors, all matters of mutual concern relating to the total welfare of the Program.
  • Responsible to complete Orientation Sessions and attend all parent meetings.
  • Responsible for the leadership and guidance of assigned participants and your assigned staff.
  • Assume responsibility for the health, cleanliness, good habits, welfare and happiness of all participants and staff, but especially those under your direct supervision.
  • Maintain a high level of interaction with participants and staff; also be a constructive member of the Leadership contributing in every possible way to the health, harmony and happiness of the Brownsville Corps family.
  • Coordinate daily assembly as assigned by the Assistant Program Director.
  • Voice criticisms to the Program Directors first and respond positively to their directives, thereafter.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Group Leader, in their absence.
  • Communicate with the Group Leader as soon as possible (in private), for actions of staff members that put the health and safety of participants at risk.       Report all incidents minor or major.
  • Ability to communicate and work with groups of various ages and skill levels, and provide necessary instruction to participants and/or staff.
  • Ability to identify and physically respond appropriately and quickly to emergency situations, as needed.
  • Responsible for the leadership and guidance of assigned participants and your assigned staff.
  • Responsible for, in conjunction with the Program Director, for the planning of assigned group’s schedule.
  • Assume responsibility for the health, cleanliness, good habits, welfare and happiness of all participants and staff,
  • Responsible for the complete and overall supervision of your group’s Junior Counselors.
  • Correct or reprimand staff as soon as possible (in private), for actions that put the health and safety of participants at risk. Document all written and verbal warnings. Report all incidents minor or major.
  • Cognitive and communicative abilities to plan and conduct activities that achieve participant development objectives.
  • Ability to identify and respond to hazards. Must be able to assist participants and staff in emergencies.
  • Organize, direct, administer and instruct a safe & meaningful athletics program geared to all ages, interest and abilities of the participants, both male and female.
  • Coordinate the recreation & sports classes with other program activities and plans.
  • Assume responsibility for gymnasium and other recreation areas, proper use of supplies, maintaining inventory and requesting additional supplies as needed.
  • Cultivate an understanding of good sportsmanship and team effort among participants and staff.
  • Set-up a weekly activity schedule to be submitted to the Program Office

Qualifications

  • One Year Experience in Youth or Camp Programming and/or group work experience in the activity assigned and the ability to teach and enthuse others
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 6 months supervisory experience
  • Availability for the entire duration of program hours (school year, school holidays and summer months)
