Overview

The Educational Advisor will serve in a critical role to the Brownsville Night Center & GAINS Programs, under the supervision of the Director of Community Engagement & GAINS Programming. They will be intimately and integrally involved in the daily operations of the Corps and the carrying out of the Mission of The Salvation Army. They will serve as the Reading Specialist & Caseworker for the GAINS Program. They will also serve as the primary educational leader for the Night Center program. 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the organization and administration of a reading enrichment curriculum for children, grades K – 5.
  • Responsible for teaching academic skills geared for each age group showing an overall progression by the end of the program
  • Assume responsibility for the classroom areas, proper use of supplies, maintenance of inventory, requesting additional supplies as needed.
  • Voice all concerns and matters of need with the Program Director
  • Support the Assistant Program Director by serving as a case worker (interventionist) on discipline matters
  •  Coordinate, develop & lead HSE/GED Prep courses
  •  Coordinate, develop & lead ESL/ELL program for adults

  •  Provide tutoring to High School students, as needed and as feasible

  •  Coordinate scheduling and needs with Program Assistant

 

Qualifications

  • Licensed NYS Teacher
  • Must be available Mondays through Thursdays (4:00 PM – 9:00 PM)
  • Experience developing & teaching ESL/ELL courses
  • Ability to develop & teach HSE/GED courses
