Overview

The Educational Specialist will serve as a bridge between the after school program and the public school. This will include meeting with the Principal and/or teachers concerning the progress of the students, obtaining and analyzing report card grades and standardize test results. Also, he/she will work with Enrichment Instructors in developing and implementing lesson plans, as well as evaluating the Instructors’ delivery of lesson plans.

 

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate On-site training such as lesson planning, classroom management, facilitation techniques and strategies to improve program quality.
  • Develop curriculum and lesson plans, and implement structured programming.
  • Arrange educational, cultural and social activities for students.
  • Create staff dynamics in order to develop staff, conducting monthly staff meetings and formal supervision, and fostering an environment of fun, professionalism and learning. Teamwork is important.
  • Review all lesson plans prepared by all enrichment instructors. Make sure age appropriate.
  • Attend all required training classes.
  • Work closely with Enrichment Instructors and meet with them regularly. Help them prepare lesson plans and critique the Instructor’s delivery of lessons/activities to students. Make sure age appropriate.
  • Involve students in the development of activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationship with principal(s) and teachers of participating school(s). Be aware of and reinforce public school curriculum.
  • Meet with Director and/or teachers at least monthly concerning the progress of the students (academic and behavior), and what GAINS needs to do to meet the needs of the students.   Create a form and maintain a record of how often you meet with school staff.
  • Evaluate progress of students monthly by analyzing report cards, progress reports, selective homework assignments, etc. This will include monthly meetings with the Principal(s) and/or teachers concerning each student’s progress.
  • Know State requirements. Ensure that all sites meet City and State Requirements.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree.
  • Minimum of three years of demonstrated successful experience in a supervisory position providing services to elementary and/or middle school youth.
  • Experience in lesson planning, curriculum development and implementation of structured programming for students in elementary and/or middle school program.
  • Preferably, teaching credentials and some teaching experience.
