GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB. 

With direction from Corps Officer, oversee daily operations of the Learning Zone.  Ensure that the program meets all academic standards and stays true to the mission of The Salvation Army.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.  

1. To be knowledgeable of the needs and concerns of the early childhood population in Lorain County and the needs of the school system regarding academic enrichment and seek follow-up on how our former students have adjusted to the public schooling.
2. Oversee and guide the staff within the Learning Zone concerning the day to day needs and operations of the centers.
3. Assist with supervision and responsibility for children on a daily basis, attending to their physical needs within the center and ensuring their safety.
4. Maintain good working relationships with all parents and staff, which includes assisting teachers with scheduling conferences with parents.
5. Maintain a safe, non-judgmental and consistent environment within the Learning Zone and maintain a spiritual emphasis throughout the program.
6. Assist with proper record keeping as required by contracted funding sources.
7. Assist with ensuring assessments and screenings are completed on all students and that appropriate teacher and parent surveys are conducted each year.
8. Ensure all assessments and documents with outside collaborations are complete.
9. Market the programs and assist with planning and improving program. Recruit and enroll children to the program.  
10. Ensure that accurate records are kept concerning attendance, child progress, and other information that may be required for reports and that monthly statistics are completed, compiled, and reported.
11. Collect and reporting statistical information for The Salvation Army and all other funding agencies.
12. Ensure proper billing, receiving, and receipting of payments by parents for The Learning Zone services provided in accordance with Salvation Army accounting policies.
13. Oversight of all food service for preschool and childcare including supervision of menu planning, food inventory and ordering, and food preparation.
14. Ensure that the Learning Zone is kept clean, and that any janitorial needs are reported to the Corps Officers.
15. Organize and conduct a monthly Family Night during the school year, with the exception of January.
16. Create a yearly calendar that is given to each of the families that have a student program including holiday closings and scheduled family nights prior to the school year start.
17. Ensure transportation requirements are met by The Salvation Army standards pertaining to vehicles and staff training.
18. Plan and implement a 8-10 week summer camp with all of the same expectations listed above for the after school program.

General Responsibilities:

1. Any and all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Corps Officers.
2. Upholds and represents The Salvation Army in the highest esteem possible.

Extra-Curricular Activities

• Assist to promote these programs to outside agencies, schools, and organizations to assist in finding volunteers to help lead the programs and to find children to attend the programs.
• Research and assist DHQ Development Department to find funding for these programs.
• Coordinate the Learning Zone staff to assist in the leadership of these programs.

Additional Responsibilities

• Uphold all policies of The Salvation Army and give the utmost care in upholding the philosophy as stated in its mission statement.
• Represent The Salvation Army and its programs with a high degree of professionalism.
• Work with the Director as it relates to other duties and responsibilities.

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE. 

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and experience.
• Commitment to Christian evangelical outreach to youth and their families.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and appropriate intervention skills required.
• Relative experience in a classroom setting or in a setting involving work with children.
• Experience in staff supervision.
• Salvation Army background preferred.

 SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS. 

• Meet all state licensing requirements for working with children. 
• Obtain appropriate certification for Communicable Diseases/First Aid and CPR/Child Abuse. 
• Meet insurance requirements for driving SA vehicles.
