Overview

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Learning Zone After-School Program Tutor provides academic, recreational, and supervisory support to children participating in the Learning Zone program. This position assists the Learning Zone Director and Lead Teacher with implementing engaging learning activities, homework assistance, tutoring, student learning plans, and recreational programming while maintaining a safe, positive, and supportive environment for all participants.

 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Assist the director and lead teacher in developing and implementing dynamic and engaging lesson plans and activities for youth under your direction
  • Facilitate the transportation of children from school and field trips including the ability to drive a mini-bus and/or van
  • Assist children with completion of homework
  • Tutor children fully complying with SES guidelines
  • Assist the director and lead teacher in planning and implementing tutoring SLP’s (student learning plans)
  • Assist and/or lead recreation being fully engaged in activities
  • Actively supervise children at all times
  • Provide the children with positive reinforcements and role modeling
  • Attend required in-service training, as well as required trainings to meet state standards
  • Assist with assessments and evaluations of children
  • Assist in maintaining and monitoring attendance records
  • Assist in maintaining and monitoring snack records and supplies
  • Keep current CPR, Communicable Disease, First Aid, and Child Abuse training
  • Assist with daily cleaning and sanitizing of classrooms and other spaces used by children
  • Other duties deemed necessary for the proper operation of the Learning Zone by the Learning Zone director

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma/GED requirement
  • Preferred education in child development, education, recreation, social services, or a related field
  • Experience working with school-age children
  • Homework/tutoring and academic-support experience
  • Experience with lesson plans, enrichment activities, and student learning plans
  • Bilingual skills as a plus


SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS.   

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • WebCheck/background screening
  • CPR, First Aid, Communicable Disease, and Child Abuse training
  • Child supervision and safety
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, judgment, reliability, flexibility, and positive role modeling
  • Confidentiality and adherence to policies
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
