Overview

The Salvation Army’s Divisional Headquarters is hiring a Music Instructor and offers the following benefit package to part-time employees:

Location: Various locations throughout Massachusetts

Hours/week: Hours vary depending upon schedule of location, maximum 8 hours/week

Exemption: Non-exempt

Pay Range: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour

* While the full salary range is shown, we expect to hire around $20.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

 

Serve as a music instructor for The Salvation Army Divisional Music Department in Massachusetts

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. The hours for this position will vary by week but will not exceed 8 hours per week
  2. Locations and work hours will vary and be assigned by the Divisional Music Director
  3. Travel to assigned Salvation Army corps in Massachusetts to teach and lead music classes, as well as group and private music lessons
  4. Working with the Divisional Music Director and Salvation Army officer(s), promote and plan local music events for corps that have been assigned. This includes helping local leaders plan programs, advertising music programs to the public, and implementing special events like concerts and recitals.
  5. Prepare musicians for seasonal performances during Christmas and Easter
  6. Encourage and help prepare musicians to participate in Divisional music programs like Youth Arts Ministry, Star Search, and Music Conservatory.
  7. Communicate all problems or concerns to the Divisional Music Director
  8. Must remain current with KeepSAfe training
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education Requirements:

High School Diploma

 

Work Experience:

  • Have experience leading and teaching a music discipline
  • Have musical experience or expertise in one or more of the following music disciplines: brass, vocal, guitar, piano

 

Other Qualifications:

  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Must have personal transportation
  • Must have the ability to work and relate well with people.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Must be available to work weeknights and weekends

  3. Ability to load and to change settings, devices, fixtures, on various equipment used in and around an office environment
  4. Operate telephone and other electronic communication devices.
  5. Operate various other office equipment including personal computers, copiers, fax machines, and scanning equipment.
  6. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  7. Ability to travel throughout the Division via car, train, or airplane.
  8. Ability to be creative, original, intuitive, and perceptive.
  9. Ability to think logically and critically.
  10. Ability to envision a project from beginning to end.
  11. Ability to solve complex problems, make appropriate judgments and decisions
