Overview

Position: Resident Advisor

Department:  PSSM             

Availability of Position: ASAP

Schedule: Monday-Friday 11:59pm – 8:00am

Reporting Relationship: Director of Reed House and Social Services; Housing and Project Coordinator

Salary/Grade: $20 per hour

About the Reed House:

The Salvation Army, Reed House is a 66 single room occupancy facility that houses formerly homeless residents. RH is located in the south Philadelphia section of Philadelphia. Reed House is a facility that is funded by the city of Philadelphia through the Department of housing and urban development’s Continuum of Care funding source. It is also funded by the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA), therefore, the residents are responsible for thirty percent of their rent, and PHA will pay for the other seventy percent of the rent through a Housing Assistance Payment directly to the site.

Responsibilities

Description of Position: The Residential Advisor (RA) is responsible for the safety and welfare of shelter residents through the administration of house rules pertaining to resident conduct, fire safety, room conditions, and curfew restrictions.  The RA is to communicate and support all residents in a trauma informed manner. The RA is to effectively communicate with the house manager, other resident advisors, and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be able to read, write and speak well in English
  • Must have computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel Programs and be proficient in and the ability to utilize the internet.
  • Pennsylvania's Child Protective Services Law requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and PA DHS Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. In addition, completion of a Pennsylvania approved Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training is necessary prior to employment.
  • Must understand and support for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
