SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Regional Services Coordinator will report to and work very closely with the Service Extension Director, who leads the overall strategy for service units. In the absence of the Service Extension Director, the Regional Services Coordinator will report to the Director of Advancement.  This position is responsible for the fundraising, marketing, management planning, and implementation of program activities that will benefit their assigned Service Extension Units within the Empire State Division.  This position provides support to the Service Extension Units and their efforts to raise and distribute funds in accordance with The Salvation Army mission.  In addition, they are to maintain a working relationship with the Corps Community Center Officers in their assigned area.

  • Schedule and maintain regular in-person visits (min. twice per year) with all Service Unit volunteers in designated areas of responsibility.   In person Service Unit visits are a primary part of this position’s duties which may require over 60% of his/her time out of the office.
  • Prepare and make in person presentations on behalf of The Salvation Army with local civic, volunteer and other nonprofit groups
  • Support and encourage current and new volunteers in their established roles
  • Recruit new volunteers via in person meetings to complement each unit’s structure
  • Enhance existing Service Units and revive inactive Service Units
  • Coordinate, develop and plan with Service Extension Director county-wide meetings
  • Give guidance and encouragement to the Service Unit volunteers with methods to raise funds locally, such as Christmas Kettles, Walmart Stuff a Bus, Christmas in July
  • Be thoroughly knowledgeable of the Service Unit Manual
  • Attend all staff/Development meetings as requested
  • Promote awareness of TSA programs available to Service Unit areas
  • Attend in person Service Provider/School District engagement opportunities as it relates to volunteer recruitment, camp recruitment, and assistance provided by Service Units.
  • Attend all county agency meetings in person, ie Madison County Consortium, Broome County Community Network Meetings, etc.
  • Encourage campership development and participation in Service Unit areas and educating with use of CampMinder with Service Unit volunteers
  • Assist with camper application process with volunteers and parents and disseminate LPC (Long Point Camp) materials
  • Arrange transportation, chaperones, and head and lice checks for campers, when deemed necessary
  • Assist on Service Unit Camp registration days (opening day) at camp serving as main point person for designated units’ children
  • Participate and assist with logistics at camp on ending days of Service Unit camp sessions- may need to transport children, if necessary
  • Maintain Smartdata, Service Unit reports for visits and monthly mileage reports
  • Be on-call with all sources of communication so volunteers/agencies can make contact
  • Kettle equipment accountability via Excel Spreadsheets and maintenance by Service Unit volunteers
  • Participate and coordinate in Emergency Disaster Relief services, in designated units and other areas as deemed necessary
  • Expand personal training and preparedness, offer to assist volunteers to participate as well
  • Complete volunteer background checks for all new Service Unit volunteers.  Update profiles for volunteers in SU areas and volunteer information regularly
  • Assist Service Extension Director and the Director of Advancement and with miscellaneous tasks, as needed

Qualifications

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

 

  • Associate degree with a minimum of 3 years’ related experience.
  • A background in social services, marketing, or sales is preferred
  • Technology savvy and a strategic thinker
  • Volunteer Management and/or supervisory experience
  • A proven ability to work independently without reliance on others.  Must be a team player, self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgement.  Ability to work successfully under pressure and deadlines.
  • A proven ability to manage and lead others in accomplishing established objectives
  • Able to produce well-constructed and clear written communications and reports
  • A valid driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army’s Insurance requirements.
  • Possess working knowledge and skill in computer software applications including Office 365, word processing, Excel spreadsheets and Outlook
  • Well organized and hard-working
