Overview

Work with the Education Coordinator and Education Manager to implement the day-to-day activities of the children enrolled in the Summer Day Camp. Provide a positive experience for children in all programs.

Responsibilities

  •  Assist with the daily activities such as devotions, crafts, mystery programs, character building, structured and unstructured gym recreation, puppets, drama, lunch, snacks, games, trips, etc.
  • Must be able to assist with planning, preparing and implementing the day-to-day activities.
  • Provide supervision and general child care for campers while on and off site.
  • Assist Education Coordinator by adhering to schedule and coordination of program: including daily activity schedules, group outings and program guidelines.
  • Prepare Devotional Time (Bible story or Spiritual object lesson, Choruses and Prayer) once or twice a week for the entire day camp.
  • Handle all disciplinary action in accordance with the Summer Day Camp Manual. Report problems immediately to the Education Coordinator.
  • Complete and file reports regarding programs, activities, disciplinary or accident issues in a timely and orderly manner.
  • Keeping records/statistics as requested from Education Coordinator and Education Manager.
  • Assist with set up and clean-up of program areas (meals, before and after program daily).
  • Receive and dismiss children daily in the designated area.
  • Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Education Coordinator or Education Manager.
  • Set a Christian example for the children, parents, staff and volunteers.
  • Represent The Salvation Army’s spiritual ministry and social mission in the Summer Day Camp program.
  • Engage in Christian spiritual conversation with members of the public and in the program if the opportunity or need presents itself.
  • Recognize spiritual need of persons which may require referral to the Corps Officers or Kroc Administrators.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by your supervisors.

Qualifications

Education Requirements

  •  High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Guidance, Human Services, Nursing, Psychology, Physical Education, Recreation, Child Psychology, the Arts, Social Work, Sociology or Child Care preferred.

 

Work/Volunteer Experience

  • Minimum of six months experience working or volunteering with school age children.
  • Must have experience with Christian Education Programs for school age children such as Sunday School or Vacation Bible Study.

 

Other Qualifications

  • Must have a keen interest and sincere appreciation for children and able to relate well with individuals with varying needs.
  • Must be at least eighteen years of age.
  • Must utilize effective communication skills
  • Must complete Summer Day Camp Staff Orientation.
