Availability of Position: Immediate

Schedule: Full Time, some evenings and weekends required

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Director of Emergency Housing

Salary/Grade: $70,000.00 per year; Grade 12, Exempt

About the Red Shield Family Residence & Eliza Shirley House: The Salvation Red Shield Family Residence & Eliza Shirley House are safe and welcoming emergency housing programs that serve families experiencing homelessness. Each family is provided respectful, compassionate, and non-judgmental services to empower them to strive towards self-sufficiency and end their homeless crisis successfully.

Responsibilities

Description of Position: The Assistant Director of Red Shield Family Residence (RSFR) supports the Director of Emergency Housing (DEH) on the day-to-day management and running of the RSFR, which is a 24/7 trauma-informed emergency housing program. This includes directly supervising the Operations Manager and Case Managers. The Assistant Director completes all invoice processing and ensures Smart Data is completed. The Assistant Director works with the DEH to develop the budget for RSFR and monitors to provide monthly updates and ensure compliance. The Assistant Director supports the DEH to provide leadership and guidance to all program staff and residents, including maintaining a trauma-sensitive environment through the implementation of the Sanctuary Model at all levels of service provision. The Assistant Director supports the Operations Manager on staff retention to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained at a 24/7 facility. In the absence of the Operations Manager, the Assistant Director  is responsible for adjusting the schedule to ensure safe staffing levels. Also, the Assistant Director provides support to the Red Shield Family Residence and Eliza Shirley House, as requested.

Qualifications

Requirements: 

  • BSW (required) Master’s Degree in Social Work prefered (MSW).
  • Residential experience preferred.
  • 3+ years working with families experiencing homeless.
  • Training in trauma-informed care (Sanctuary Model Training) preferred.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Pennsylvania's Child Protective Services Law requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and PA DHS Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. In addition, completion of a Pennsylvania approved Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training is necessary prior to employment.
  • Must understand and support for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
