Overview

The Salvation Army’s Brockton Corps. is hiring a Custodian and offers the following benefit package to part-time employees:

Location: 216 Centre St., Brockton, MA

Hours/week: 20 hours per week

Exemption: Non-exempt

Pay Range: $15.30 - $21.42 per hour

*starting pay varies depending on experience and qualifications*

 

Assist the Corps Officer with the duties and responsibilities of maintenance to ensure safety and cleanliness of the building and assist with food pantry duties.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

a) Empty all trash receptacles daily throughout the building.

b) Clean and disinfect all areas of the facility; restock toilet paper, soap, and paper towels as needed

c) Maintain an accurate inventory of custodial supplies and notify the supervisor in advance when items need to be reordered

d) Drive to GBFB and pick up food order.

e) Keep the pantry and storage areas clean by sweeping and mopping regularly, especially after deliveries are put away.

f) Clean and maintain building grounds.

g) Ensure vacuum cleaners remain in working condition; report any needed repairs to the supervisor immediately.

h) Install bulletin boards, pictures, and similar items. as directed by supervisor.

i) Complete required 12-passenger van training and maintain the necessary knowledge to safely operate and care for the vehicle.

j) Clean vehicles inside and out

k) Operate The Salvation Army vehicle for pick-up and delivery tasks, as needed.

l) Set up and break down furniture and equipment for special events and trainings.

m) Attend required staff meetings/trainings

n) Report any unsafe working conditions to the supervisor.

o) Maintain positive working relationships with other staff, suppliers, vendors, and professionals.

p) Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education Requirements:

High School Graduate, preferred

 

Work Experience:

Minimum one year experience in custodial work

 

Other Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years old of age, hold a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a 12-passenger cargo/transport van, including passing the required driving test.
  • Demonstrates self-motivated a strong commitment to maintaining a clean and well-cared-for facility
  • Able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Capable of reading and understanding safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance guidelines, and procedural manuals
  • Able manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possesses working knowledge custodial equipment and tools
  • Adheres to all safety standards and procedures related to custodial work.
  • Highly organized, detailed-oriented, and able to prioritize tasks efficiently
  • Contributes to a positive, supportive work environment and maintains a professional attitude
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and sound judgement in decision-making.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality, discretion, and judgment.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both in writing and verbally

Requirements include:

a) Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or occasional continuous basis.

b) Grasp, push, pull objects such as reference materials, files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.

c) Ability to load and to change settings, devices, fixtures, on various equipment used in and around an office environment

d) Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
