Scope of Position
Oversee and manage all operations of the Carey House Homeless Shelter, including development and administration of organizational policies, budget management, fundraising initiatives, special events, staffing, volunteer coordination, facility oversight, and delivery of emergency shelter services to all residents.
Program Development:
Oversee and develop all agency programs, including emergency, supportive, and transitional services for individuals experiencing homelessness. Ensure all required program statistics are accurately entered into appropriate databases and reported to the State of New Hampshire, The Salvation Army, and other applicable entities. Develop and implement strategies to enhance the capacity and quality of Carey House services. Ensure residents receive appropriate case management and meet program requirements. Oversee services provided by staff, volunteers, and partner agencies.
Facility Management:
Ensure the Carey House facility and surrounding property are properly maintained. Identify and report both short-term and long-term maintenance issues to administration. Ensure compliance with New Hampshire Housing Authority standards and The Salvation Army policies and confirm that facilities meet the needs of current and incoming residents.
Fundraising:
Identify funding opportunities, prepare grant proposals, and collaborate with the Divisional Grant Writer as appropriate. Plan and execute fundraising initiatives and special events in accordance with The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
Staffing, Supervision, and Development:
Recruit, hire, develop, and retain competent and motivated staff to support the mission of Carey House. Supervise and effectively utilize volunteers. Ensure all staff and volunteers complete required KeepSAfe training and maintain confidentiality standards.
Budget Management and Financial Planning:
Oversee fiscal operations, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of all financial, professional, and volunteer services. Maintain compliance with Salvation Army financial policies and reporting requirements, including communication with the local Advisory Board Finance Committee. Manage programs in a cost-effective manner and develop and maintain a balanced budget.
Policy and Procedure Development, Implementation and Enforcement:
Develop, implement, and maintain policies in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Salvation Army standards. Maintain an up-to-date Policy Manual. Ensure policies are communicated and distributed to residents as required. Report all incidents and grievances to the Corps Officer within 24 hours.
Community Relations:
Represent Carey House and The Salvation Army within the community, including participation in coalitions, councils, and the Continuum of Care. Maintain positive working relationships with local agencies and organizations. Support community awareness through presentations, media engagement, and public communications related to homelessness and shelter services.
Salvation Anny Compliance:
Ensure adherence to all Salvation Army policies and procedures. Confirm all staff and volunteers complete required background checks, clearances, and training. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Commanding Officer. Support the mission of The Salvation Army as a faith-based organization and uphold its ethical and confidentiality standards.
