Overview

Provide nutritious meals to program participants, ensuring program compliance for year-round Senior and Home-Delivered Meals, Youth, and other Program Outreach efforts; maximizing the use of donated food products, where appropriate, for successful food service operations; providing staff coverage and program support for senior activities, per contract guidelines.

Responsibilities

Senior Program and Home-Delivered Meals

  • Receive, check-in and sign for program food delivery; ensuring quality and accuracy; reporting inaccuracies to the Director.
  • Maintain an orderly pantry area, ensuring that foods are neatly stocked, properly stored and rotated, according to food safety guidelines.
  • Follow regulations & guidelines for food handling as posted.
  • Prepare and serve food, according to daily menus and established program requirements.
  • Package and prep home-delivered meals for transport; ensuring accuracy.
  • Provide program support and coverage for senior program activities, per contract guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean & orderly kitchen; cleaning equipment, appliances and utensils daily.
  • Order necessary program supplies from caterer on weekly basis.
  • Adhere to WRAAA/food safety standards, including report completion (weekly meal evaluation, quarterly temperature testing of home-delivered meals, etc.), to submit to the Director.
  • Post updated menus, documenting changes, as appropriate.
  • Supervise the setting of tables & regular cleaning of the dining room.

Youth Outreach Meals - including Summer Day Camp efforts

  • In addition to the above, Follow CACFP Guidelines for cooking procedures, portion sizes, menu components, etc. (will train).
  • Work closely with Corps Officers/Youth Coordinator to ensure proper menu planning (and alternate meal considerations, as appropriate).
  • Prepare and assist in service of meals according to established menu (if applicable).
  • Regularly take and log meal, refrigerator and food storage temperatures, in compliance with program guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate inventory and ordering, in coordination with Corps Officers/Youth Coordinator.

Program Outreach (Corps/Church and Community)

  • Prepare and warm meals for regular Program schedule and outreach events, as established and directed by the Corps Officer(s).
  • Procure food service items and sundries, as needed, via online ordering/store pickup (in coordination with CO’s)
  • Oversee program food delivery, including the organized and tidy stocking/storage of corps program food areas according to Food Safety guidelines.
  • Oversee kitchen operation. Maintain clean and sanitary conditions in the kitchen. Ensure that the kitchen equipment is deep cleaned monthly.
  • Maintain accurate records, including: daily meal counts (where required), daily temperature logs, in-kind donations forms, volunteer service records, menus, etc.

Other Duties

  • Attend workshops, meetings, training as necessary and/or requested by Corps Officer(s).
  • Train and supervise program volunteers in overall kitchen operations, working cooperatively with staff to ensure consistency in all food service operations.
  • Ensure compliance in all kitchen operations with the Health Department, Greater Cleveland Foodbank, and other contract regulations.
  • Present a friendly, understanding & helpful attitude towards program participants, volunteers and staff; coordinating effectively with program leadership.
  • Participate and support the implementation of special activities and events for the Corps/Church as requested by the Corps Officer(s).

Qualifications

  • ServSafe certification per WRAAA, CACFP, and County Contracts required (within 30 days of employment).
  • CPR, AED & First Aid certification preferred
  • Bulk food preparation and meal service experience preferred
  • Demonstrate the ability to multi-task; preparing, counting & transferring meals from the kitchen to program participant areas.
  • Must be able to stand on feet for long periods; with ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Exhibit skill in kitchen organization.
  • Possess knowledge of the proper operation and cleaning of the kitchen equipment.
  • Understand & follow health & safety standards.
  • Work well with diverse populations, with an ability to be flexible.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to receive and follow directions with minimal direct supervision.
