The Digital Marketing and Graphic Design Specialist will play a key role in contributing creative design and marketing strategy for all aspects of the organization including events, fundraising campaigns, online and print communication initiatives, and general messaging. This position will also maintain a comprehensive social media strategy by reviewing analytics to maximize ROI, increase visibility, membership, and traffic across all Salvation Army and emerging social media channels Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, as well as provide the necessary guidance for social media activities. In addition, the Digital Marketing and Graphic Designer Specialist is responsible for the development and maintenance of the website and custom donation pages. This position may require availability outside of regular working hours to respond to on-call emergencies or attend events as needed. The overall goal for this position is to advance The Salvation Army’s mission by increasing awareness and fundraising, and by providing design support to the Advancement Department.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Salvation Army Website
- Work collaboratively with Director of Communications to design and develop content for the website, with particular attention to increase website traffic/visitors.
- Refresh and update content as necessary.
- Design user-friendly content in a format that will engage users with timely events and news updates.
- Create and implement strategies for collecting images for inclusion on webpages and in creative materials.
- Provide graphics and/or support to staff across the Division.
- Provide meaningful progress reports including traffic statistics.
- Assist in covering events and stories via photography, reporting, and video for inclusion.
Online Fundraising
- Assist in designing fundraising efforts including e-mail blasts, donation pages, and event promotion.
Social Media
- Develop guidelines for proper participation in social media and/or techniques to be used.
- Work with Director of Communications to develop graphics comprehensive social media strategy and campaigns to increase visibility, membership, and traffic.
- Monitor trends and appropriately apply initiatives to leverage the use of social media.
- Participate in conversations that surround The Salvation Army content and brand.
- Identify threats and opportunities in user-generated content surrounding The Salvation Army brand.
- Create and upload content for our various social media sites, including live event coverage.
- Create and update traffic and effort reports as necessary.
- Evaluate and summarize findings and communicate to the appropriate personnel.
- Translate data into recommendations and plans for revising various social media campaigns.
Graphic Design
- Develop print materials to support the Advancement Department and division-wide initiatives including PSAs, advertisements, posters, brochures, bookmarks, t-shirts, booklets, invitations, programs, and postcards.
- Redesign, as needed, existing promotional materials.
- Provide branded templates to the division for reproduction.
- Manage relationships and obtain quotes from vendors.
Advancement Operations
- Assist on occasion with database support.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as required by the Divisional Director of Advancement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or Communications related field required
Work Experience:
- Minimum five to seven years of experience in a professional work environment, preferably a non-profit organization
- Experience with constituent communication and stewardship through written communication and events implementation; and overall program strategy and implementation.
- Experience with writing/production of communication, solicitation, and marketing collateral; implementation of successful fund and awareness raising programs
- Experience working to create, produce and distribute digital marketing materials, solicitations, and other communications.
- Experience in website content management, social media, and graphic design.
- Experience in working with fundraising and constituent management databases.
Other Qualifications:
- Energetic, organized, detail-oriented, team-oriented and possess excellent people skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience in writing donor solicitations, promotional materials such as newsletters, e-solicitations, web pages, or brochures
- Experience working collaboratively to create, produce and distribute marketing materials, solicitations, and other communications.
- Be flexible to accommodate unpredictable demands and be able to maintain priorities while managing multiple projects and a large volume of responsibilities
- Ability to remain tactful and flexible under pressure
- Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service and maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Experience in website content management, social media, and graphic design.
- Computer & Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and marketing software; experience with database management. Knowledge of Photoshop or other illustration software is a plus.
- Graphic Design: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Experience with Canva
- Digital Marketing: Familiarity with HTML and CSS is a plus and Experience with Google Analytics and Adobe Analytics
- Animation and video production skills are a plus
