The Dance Instructor will teach participants various dance techniques and forms, incorporating style,
performance, and choreography elements in their educational approach. The Dance Instructor will build a
curriculum and tailor lesson plans according to student strengths and weaknesses to maximize growth.

Specifically, the primary duties are:
• Prepare and teach dance techniques.
• Set up class space before class begins.
• Show students how to warm up, cool down, and move safely.
• Create weekly lesson plans and provide them to the direct supervisor.
• Study and practice multiple dance techniques and styles, staying up to date with the latest music
trends.
• Choreograph performances for quarterly dance recitals and produce seasonal recitals to showcase
student progress.
• Collaborate with other teaching artists to create specific works for annual events and ensemble
performances.
• Report equipment and prop problems to the supervisor.
• Evaluate students and provide written feedback to the direct supervisor and program participants.
• Attend organizational meetings.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Perform other duties within the scope of the role as assigned by the supervisor.
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Two (2) or more years of experience teaching dance.
• Proven experience managing small and large groups; prior experience teaching children is preferred.
• Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with
other teachers.
• Excellent work ethic, positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to perform assigned tasks.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
• Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
