The Young Adult & Missions Ministries Coordinator is responsible for the continued development of The Salvation Army Hands On and Young Adult ministries throughout the Eastern Territory. This position also acts as a liaison to divisions with respect to these ministries – sharing resources, materials, assisting in training opportunities as invited by divisions.

 

Based in West Nyack, NY, this position requires approximately 35 hours of work per week and is onsite.

Responsibilities

YOUNG ADULT
- Promote the improvement, advancement and coordination of Young Adult Ministry Programs in the Territory.
- Encourage and resource evangelism and discipleship of young adults at the territorial, divisional, and corps levels.
- In cooperation with the Youth Department, (and with approval from Territorial Administration) design, implement, resource regular Young Adult events around the territory. This could include, but is not limited to the following:
             o Territorial and Divisional Young Adult Retreats
             o Marriage seminars
             o Bible studies
             o Leadership/Discipleship training
- Promote availability to assist Divisions in the development and implementation of young adult activities (special guest at Y. A. retreats etc.).
- Keep an ongoing Realtime record/roster of Eastern Territory young adults who are attending and/or away at college.
- Regularly contact Salvationist college students for the purpose of keeping them connected to the Army, discipleship, etc.
- Visit annually the SA Student Fellowship at Asbury University and Houghton College if the TYS or ATYS can’t travel.
- Contact SA students who are at other Christian Colleges including, but not limited to, Malone College, Messiah, Gordon, Eastern Nazarene, Roberts Wesleyan.
- Other initiatives as directed by the Territorial Youth Secretary.

 

MISSIONS MINISTRIES
- Work with the Territorial Youth Secretary to maintain a list of potential host locations at least five years in advance. Each year should include at least one “Partners in Missions” Territory.  The criteria for other host locations should be determined in consultation with the Territorial Youth Secretary.
- Establish each fall the timeline for the recruitment of Hands On Team members including the announcement of locations, release of application, and the application deadline.
- Work closely with the Territorial Youth Secretary to maintain Hands On partnership with the MUsics, Territorial Arts Ministries, and other potential partners for Hand On- Cast, Summer Brass, and other equivalents.
- Work closely with the Territorial Youth Secretary to establish the membership for the Hands On Team Member Selection Committee, meeting dates, and agenda.
- Communicate with Hands On team members concerning their acceptance into the program. Provide team members with all necessary paperwork including employment and travel documentation, including any documentation of completed training in Keep Safe (or equivalent if needed for other territories) and safe driving courses, as well as securing immunization records and passports from each team member.
- Plan and implement annual orientation program which should include schedule for the week, topics, speakers, and activities. A venue should be secured that includes meals and falls within the amount budgeted for this event.
- Secure travel arrangements for all team members to and from host locations. If visas are required, work with travel agent to secure visas for each team members including secure travel insurance and medical, evacuation insurance for countries in which it is recommended to have this insurance.
- Plan and implement annual debriefing program which should include schedule for the week, topics, speakers, and activities. A venue should be secured that includes meals and falls within the amount budgeted for this event.
- Maintain contact with team leaders while they are in each location.
- Organize and purchase all supplies related to Hands On travel, including travel tote supplies, clothing, and packing equipment.
- Communicate and plan with host countries regarding travel plans, itinerary, budget, accommodations, and any other mission related correspondence.
- Visit host locations to establish itineraries if the TYS or ATYS can’t travel.
- Work with The College for Officer Training (if necessary) for use of vans for travel and Orientation and Debriefing.
- Explore other avenues for additional missions’ opportunities.
- Any other duties as assigned.

 

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend and participate in all Territorial Youth events, such as DYL, Youth Holiness Advance, Old Orchard Beach, etc.
- Assist the TYS with Youth Councils Resources, How Book and present to the Divisional Youth Secretaries every year at DYL or when appropriate.
- Assist as needed with AV for different territorial Youth Events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministry preferred, organizational management, or related field
• Minimum 5 years of experience, including mission team experience.
• Uniformed Salvationist preferred.
• Must have strong organizational skills.
• Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Some overnight travel is required.
