Salary Grade: 73

Responsibilities

Description of Position: The primary function of the Food Service Program Coordinator is to coordinate food service for the corps program, meeting, and events, to include but not limited to the ordering, planning, stocking, preparing, serving, and distributing of food. Additionally, ensures that the kitchen is properly maintained and cleaned to meet sanitation standards.

 

Duties:

  • Coordinates assigned volunteers to actively participate and assist with feeding programs when possible.
  • Prepares and serves food for board meetings, weekly community meals, holiday meals (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter) weekly DMZ Jr. meal, Tuesday men and women’s fellowship, Monday night bible study, Monday night music school, and Sunday lunches as scheduled.
  • Submit weekly supply order from the Berks Country Food Bank every Monday.
  • Properly maintain food inventory (perishable and nonperishable food items) to include the labeling, date stamping, and rotating stock to ensure the safe storage of food supply.
  • Plans well balanced menus each week and posts accordingly.
  • Works with program staff and corps officers to anticipate sufficient food supply for special events requesting food (such as DMZ Teen Center).
  • Coordinates the food needs for canteen, including the anticipating of ample food supplies in case of an emergency.
  • Works with the commanding officer in anticipating the food needs for holiday food drives and the Christmas food boxes/distribution program.
  • Coordinates the food need for specials events such as the annual block party.
  • Operates withing the approved food service budget/allotment.
  • Completes and submits to corps commanding officer requisitions for food orders and supplies.
  • Purchases food as needed local vendors (local companies when possible) as authorized/approved by the corps commanding officer.
  • Responsible to ensure that the kitchen is neat, orderly, clean, and appropriately disinfected/sanitized according to health standards. Reports cleanliness and maintenance issues to the corps commanding officer for follow up to ensure safe operation of the kitchen.
  • Requires that any/all volunteers who assist in preparing or the serving of food have appropriate safety and food handling training.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:                        

  • HS Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two years prior work experience working with food programs or service.
  • ServSafe Food Safety and Handling Certification, or willing to obtain certification within 60 days.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, self-motivated, reliable, and a team player.
  • Must have the ability to use financial resourcefully in a non-profit environment.
  • Understand and maintain confidentiality for clients, parishioners, volunteers, staff, and donors.
  • Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
