Overview

This is a ministry-centered (religious) position.

 

The Youth Ministries Coordinator will serve in a critical support role to the Corps Officers and a major leadership role within the East Cleveland Corps. They will be intimately and integrally involved in the ministry of Corps, including teaching, leading and preaching the Gospel Message. The Youth Ministries Coordinator should remain teachable and possess a passion to further the cause of Christ.

 

The Youth Ministries Coordinator will be involved in Corps Administration, Youth Ministries, Outreach Ministries and Community Relations.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: As directed by the Corps Officers:


Sunday Ministry
• Plan, coordinate, and execute children’s Sunday school classes
• Manage resources for Sunday School lessons and teachers
• Provide & coordinate transportation for program participants as needed
• Implement and execute use of at home materials for families
• Encourage attendance growth of youth and families for Sunday mornings
• Participate in Holiness meeting as assigned
• Lead, teach, and coordinate weekly Children’s Church

 

Weekday Ministry
• Provide & coordinate transportation for program participants as needed
• Total involvement in the planning and execution of all youth programs including but not limited to Bible Study, Music & Arts programs and Youth Development programming (i.e. Troops, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, Bible Bowl)
• Participate in and/or lead Young Adult Ministries, as directed.
• Work in close connection with the Recreation Coordinator to develop a plan to bridge children into corps programming.
• Identify & develop regular Outreach opportunities via Soup Kitchen & Food Pantry, in consultation with the Social Services & Volunteer Coordinator
• Responsible to assist in the development of the Community Center Programs while reinforcing Biblical truths and extending invitations to regular worship opportunities

 

Divisional & Territorial Ministry
• Provide & coordinate transportation for East Cleveland program participants as required
• Organize registrations & collection of fees for youth-centered events, for submission to the Corps Officers
• Support all divisional and territorial events, as assigned

 

Summer Ministry Responsibilities
• Conduct daily devotions for Day Camp program
• Identify and develop opportunities for linking children & families to the Corps’ Worship opportunities
• Assist with or lead a day camp program activity, as assigned by the Camp Directors
• Serve as a member of the Day Camp Leadership Team and participate in all related activities
• Serve as the on-site point of contact for Camp NEOSA participants and their families, including being responsible for recruiting and registering campers
• Provide & coordinate camper transportation to & from Camp NEOSA, as required
• Coordinate local efforts to advertise Camp NEOSA
• Plan, coordinate and execute annual Vacation Bible School campaign

Other Ministry Opportunities
• Responsible for being involved in all Corps Programs, in a leadership, participatory, support or advisory capacity to foster their development
• Attend and contribute to all Department Head, Ministry Team & General Staff meetings
• Assist with Christmas ministry between Angel Tree, distribution, and Kettles, including driving as required
• Keep statistics and attendance records for all youth programming
• As required by the Corps Officers, attend Divisional & Territorial training
• Connect with children and their parents through home visits whenever possible.
• To facilitate, in every way possible, the mission of The Salvation Army, at the direction of the Corps Officers, including committee assignments and Emergency Disaster work

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervise assigned volunteers
• Assist with supervision of assigned Summer Youth participants

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent of related experience.

• Must conduct oneself in a manner which reflects credit on The Salvation Army, its leadership, and on the Lord Jesus Christ.
• A uniform-wearing Salvationist in good standing, with a willingness to soldier at the East Cleveland Corps
• Must uphold Biblical standards in personal and professional life, including fiscal support of the Corps Ministry
• Must maintain a Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record


SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

• CPR & First Aid Training preferred

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in church, community center, and program settings, with occasional off-site events. Duties may occur indoors or outdoors in varying weather and noise levels, and may require standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 25 pounds, and occasional driving. Evening, weekend, and holiday hours may be required. Professional, respectful, and mission-focused conduct is expected at all times.
