Overview

The Front Desk Coordinator serves as the initial point of contact for all visitors, callers, volunteers, and donors. This role is critical in facilitating the daily operations of the Corps and Shelter by providing professional reception services, routing inquiries appropriately, and coordinating volunteer programs to ensure effective support for internal departments and community outreach efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist all guests entering the Corps facility with professionalism and warmth.
  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls to appropriate departments or personnel; take and relay messages when staff are unavailable.
  • Distribute and screen volunteer applications in accordance with The Salvation Army’s protocols.
  • Coordinate all volunteer recruitment efforts for Corps and Shelter operations.
  • Organize and assign volunteer drivers for food pickups, donations, and related transportation needs.
  • Lead and manage volunteer support for seasonal programs including:
  • Summer Feeding Program: Recruit, schedule, and support volunteers.
  • Christmas Shop & Angel Tree Program: Coordinate community and individual volunteer participation.
  • Kettle Campaign & Rolling Thunder Toy Drive: Recruit and coordinate individual and group volunteers.
  • Provide administrative support to the Social Services Department as needed, including assistance with programs such as ESFP and Columbia Gas.
  • Maintain a tidy, welcoming, and organized front desk environment at all times.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly oversee and manage all individual and group volunteers, ensuring proper orientation, scheduling, and support throughout their service.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma
  • Associate degree in Ministry, Business Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience preferred but not required.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Basic Computer Skills (Microsoft 260, Excel)
  • Typing
  • Telephone
  • Operations Time Management
  • Organizational Skills
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Ohio Driver’s License

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • 40% sitting, bending, stretching (Inside)
  • 20% lifting, squatting, stretching, carrying up to 25 (during seasonal duties- Inside & outdoors)
  • 30% walking, standing (inside and outdoors)
  • 10% Driving (outside)
